Did the 59 361 GC have one or two 4 barrel carborators

White 2dr with green roof, mint condition, might be reissue. I also have a 60 Fury, metallic blue, original JoHan promo in near mint condition has some "hood smile". The 60 Fury is an obession with me since my dad owned a 60 sport fury in 1960 when I was 15. That made me the coolest kid in the neighborhood. In retrospect the 59 has better lines. Also collecting articles and dealer lit on 57-60 plymouths. The Sonoramic 383 cid was introduced in 60 but was the Golden Commando 361 also an option in 60?

not all golden commando engines had 2- 4 barrels right? some were single 4 barrels, right? my savoy has a 361 with a single 4 barrel.

361GCs were a single 4-barrel from the factory. There's a debate right now as to how two 4-barrels appeared on some GCs. It's thought that dealers had extra stock from the '58 model year (which also was a recession year), and that they offered it as an option to customers. There doesn't seem to be any actual documentation, though, so it's unclear...

I dont have my Parts Book handy, but maybe someone could check this possibility: did Dodge offer 2x4 in 59? If so, that would provide another way a Plymouth owner could "upscale" his car. I know that Dodge had 361's in 1959...

Tom Fox sent Ed Eckerson a scan of a page from his parts book, and Ed sent me a photocopy. I checked my parts book, which I purchased from Myles Walker (the one who restored Tom Gerrard's SF, with 2x4 carbs) -- lo and behold, I have the same page! Perhaps, Forward Look Frank -- this is the same page that Myles showed you to prove his case.

What this page shows is that, as of 9/15/58, 2 air cleaners were an option on some '59 models -- and that there were forward and rear carburetors. Were these ever installed at the factory, or were they ever only parts available for dealers? At any rate, does this settle the question -- that 2x4's were an option on '59 Plymouths?

To my mind, all this proves is the parts were made available which fit the 59 Plymouth. This information does not state, nor prove that '59 Plymouths came out of the factory with 2x4s. Hence, 2x4 Plymouths should not be called factory-equipped.

Hi, Did the 59 offer the 318 w/dual fours as did the 58?

I believe they only did it at the 361's in 58 on the 59 models.
They we're just left over 58 parts I think

The 1959 Plymouth 318 did not come from the factory with dual fours.
However, there are 2x4 cast iron manifolds that fit the 318..(I had one for a while, but never put it on a car.)
Not being able to find my parts books, I cant tell you where the manifolds came from, what year or model.

I will have to unpack my JoHan promo, take a picture of it and post it on the site. It is light blue. Recently I bought a (*58!) Belvedere model, made by AMT Ertl. So far I have only the engine glued together. I bought it with thoughts of modifying it to ressemble a 59, but that isnt really possible...
