I had the extraordinary opportunity to visit Cuba this past weekend, and in particular to attend an event hosted by Amigos de Fangio in honor of our club! Onelio García Pérez, club promoter, made the arrangements - and starting at 5pm on Saturday, October 10th, the cars began to roll in. How gracious the Cuban people are, and how remarkable their ingenuity in keeping their national treasures running. Our hobby is one that transcends national borders and politics, and that was exemplified in the warm welcome I received. And I gotta tell you, Cuban cigars are awesome!
Fans of "Cuban Chrome" will recognize several of the people in these pix. Many thanks to Onelio for making this event possible. Amigos de Fangio and 59plymouth.net - now officially sister organizations. Ricardo Medel from "Cuban Chrome", Amigos de Fangio club president Lorenzo Verdecia, and my good friend Alex Cruz Rangel, who helped me with many arrangements for my trip (and provided several of these pix)Lorenzo, Onelio, Lupe Fuentes and yours trulyOnelio and Yosvany, my B&B host who just happened to stop by to see the showContinental formerly owned by wife of Fulgencio Batista, the Cuban dictator overthrown by Fidel Castro in 1959

Dan - Next time, take me with you. Some nice looking cars, those look to be the cream of the crop. You look stunning in your 59 tee shirt.
Dick.

Yeah, tell me. I did not see one '59 Plymouth on my trip, although we know there are several.
However - the gentleman standing between Onelio and me (I need to get his name) - remembers the race on the Malecon in 1958, and many other things about cars on the island. He informed me that there are no '59 Sport Furys in Cuba.
