rocker arm replacement

Is there any way possible to remove the rocker arm shafts with out pulling the heads? This engine has been pulled apart so many times I really really don't want to do it again. The engine if finally running well with the exception of the fact that it wont hold a valve lash adjustment.

I don't see any reason to pull the heads. Are the rockers bad,locking adjusters too loose.Are you replacing them. Mark

I think the Adjustment screws and the threads in the rockers are worn from age and no longer hold an adjustment. unfortunately these particular adjustment screws don't have the locks. I might look into getting replacement adjustment screws if available as a last ditch effort. Other wise my plan is to take out the radiator and try to slide the shaft forward and out.

Sounds like A plan.I read in the book the adj. stud needs at least 3lb of torque min. yours sound worn/loose needs replaced. Mark

Yes, you can remove the rocker shaft, pack rags down in the oil return and push rod passage, you don't want your parts to fall into the cam valley. It's no fun fishing them out. Pulling the shaft lock pin can be fun also.
