valve adjustment

Post by Dickjwa »

On my 59 Plymouth with the 277 V8 are the valves adjustable on this engine and if so what are the settings and are they adjusted hot or cold ?
Thanks.

Dick - The 59 Plymouths did not come with a 277 engine. The V8 choices were a 318 with solid lifters or a 361 with hydraulic lifters (no adjustment needed on the 361). All the engine specifications are in your 59 Service manual supplement.

The 318 Adjustment is:

Hot: Intake .010
Exhaust .018
Cold: Intake .012
Exhaust .020

The two thousands over cold setting is to allow for push rod expansion when hot.

Thanks for your info. I was told it was a 277 but I I am glad to know what engines came in it.
