59 door lock cylinder
59 door lock cylinder
I would like to remove the door lock cylinder from the drivers door on my suburban but for some reason I am unable to figure it out, how to remove it. I don't usually have trouble with things like this but now I am stumped .
Thanks for any help.
Also I am still in need of the screw nut/ bezel for the ignition switch to dash.

Re: 59 door lock cylinder
There is a small slot on the side of the door. There is a sliding clip holding the lock in place if I remember correctly.
This may needs some help from wd40. Best thing is to remove the door panel

Dick - In the search box at the top of this page type in "door locks" that will bring up all the discussions about your question. Go to page 2, scroll down to an entry by Nanno dated Fri. Dec. 17, 2010. It should answer your questions.
When you open the door there is a small and large hole with plugs. Opposite the large plug under the door weatherstrip is an oblong hole about 1/2" to 3/4" long. I took an old screwdriver with a 1/4" blade, heated it up and bent the tip 90 degrees to insert into the hole and grab the raised protrusion on the sliding clip that holds the lock in place and pull towards you. Sometimes the sliding clip gets pretty rusted so you need to saturate the clip with penetrate. It's best you take the door panel off as Matthew said and the two plugs in the end of the door so you can see whats going on with a good flashlight. This is one of those things that can drive you to drink so be patient and take your time. Always walk away from something that's making you frustrated and come back later. If you have a 57/58 Service manual go to page 407 and see the pitchuhs.
Good luck,
Dick.

Oh, I forgot, when you are putting the lock back in make sure you coat the sliding clip and the door side where the clip goes with anti-seize grease.
