Rust In The Engine! Eeeek!
Rust In The Engine! Eeeek!
Hello Everyone,
We're having work done on our 59 Fury and the technician told us there's particles in the engine! He recommends frequent (twice a season) oil changes to gradually flush the rust particles out of the engine.
Anyone else have experience with this?

Is it rust,or brass particles?Rust is more common with radiator/coolant issues, frequent oil changes never hurts anything. After A change cut the end of the filter apart and look between the paper pleats and see what is trapping,is the engine rebuilt,or original, just sat from lack of use?If it runs good [no knocks, severe leaks]I wouldn,t worry about it,put some miles on it, it does them good, and change out the fluids. ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE!!!!!

Its a rebuilt engine that sat for too long without being started apparently.55 survivor wrote:Is it rust,or brass particles?Rust is more common with radiator/coolant issues, frequent oil changes never hurts anything. There was enough rust in the cylinder head covers to lock up the oil fill cap. He cleaned out the cylinder head cover, put it all back together. I might consider pulling off the oil pan and cleaning it out from underneath. Now to find an engine hoist.eroomas wrote:Its a rebuilt engine that sat for too long without being started apparently.55 survivor wrote:Is it rust,or brass particles?Rust is more common with radiator/coolant issues, frequent oil changes never hurts anything. The engine was rebuilt, then sat I guess. The person we bought it from mustn't've been very forthcoming :/ But the guys that are working on it said to just do frequent oil changes (twice a season) and it should help. We didn't see the debris for ourselves. It doesn't knock or make any funny noises, it runs well ... so probably we're ok? That would be welcome news55 survivor wrote:Is it rust,or brass particles?Rust is more common with radiator/coolant issues, frequent oil changes never hurts anything.
