Canadian Cars, engine and under hood colours

Hello all, this is my first post on the site. I just got the same old question of engine and component colours on CANADIAN built cars. I have a 1959 Belvedere 2 door post. I am detailing my engine compartment and am wondering about these themes. It is a flathead 251 (25" block) straight six. All the information I can find online pertains to American built vehicles. All the flatheads in the us for the 1959 year were almost completely silver except for the intake manifold which is black. My engine has a silver cylinder head and it looks to me like it is a black block. I even took a razor blade and wire wheel to get down to the bare metal and it looks to me like it has been black from the beginning with silver head. I would like to keep my car with its original themes. Also, does anyone know what colours my Air Cleaner, Oil Cap and oil filter housing are supposed to be?? My air cleaner and oil cap are currently red, I have no idea if this is oem or not and my oil filter housing is black with a black cap, but when I started to sandblast it last week there was a yellow colour underneath it. Not sure if this was just a base colour for the writing on the cap or was this cap yellow? Any info would help. Thanks

Well Steve, when i got your 59 in 2004, the entire engine was painted black, and the air cleaner was red. When i did the head gasket in 2011 i painted the head silver, and a couple of years before that i had painted the oil cap red.
The oil filter canister is one i got from ebay as it had the Fram PB1/2P oil filter on it when i got it, and they are impossible to get!!

Anyway guys, welcome this new member, it took him a year to the day that i sold my 59 to him to post on here!

Greetiings and welcome to you (and welcome back to the car!),
My immediate response to your questions is I have no idea how the Canadian cars were finished!
I hope you stay with us, as we are strictly 59 Plymouth,
however there is
http://www.forwardlook.net which has at least one active Canadian member David Saint-Pierre, in Quebec, (his handle is soiouz) as well as another guy (Bill Watson) who seems to have all the specifics on Mopar production numbers. Mr. Watson is also a contributor to the Allpar site.
I'll have to see if I can come up with contact information for both.
You can post your questions there. The membership is in the thousands, I should think.
Again, please keep in touch here, and post pictures when you can!

I heard back from David (Quebec).
The engine block is argent silver.
Air cleaner is black.
Oil cap is black.
draft tube is black.
Hopefully that covers everything.

Thanks Roger, it does cover everything and thank you. I did a little more research since I first posted and had some help from Nighthawk (Bob) as well. I will definitely be painting it in these colours. Thanks again!

You are certainly welcome! There are folks who thank me for my help, and then there are those who seem to fade off and get silent. Hearing from you makes me happy. :)
