CONVERTIBLE TOP COVER MOULDING AND LOWER DOOR LATCH.

The chrome strip around the back of the top with the male snaps has a metal strip underneath it. Can anyone tell me what it's for and what it's supposed to do? My upholster guy says it's not needed and doesn't want to use it. He is an excellent upholsterer and has done top for severl of my friends but I'm skeptical. What say ya'll.
There is a upper and lower latch on the rear door piller. What is the lower one for.
Thanks for all replies.
Dick.

CUTE: The door opening has a front, that's where the hinges are, it also has a rear, that's where the striker is (upper) for the door latch. Below the striker is another (don't know what to call it) piece. Will send pictures, please check your Vert and see if you have that piece.
Thanks,
Dick.

The second latches are for safety reasons, to keep the cvt doors securely latched, should the frame flex too much while driving.

The stainless snap track along the top edge of the back seat is where the boot snaps to. Matthew faced this and made changes. As you know, the Keijs bought my car; my upholsterer had put the boot snaps on the back seat upright cushion which was incorrect?...as the time goes by it's getting harder to remember.
As to the purpose of the steel track...it was original equipment.. it supports the stainless track above it/keeps the stainless from caving in when the snaps are tightened down?...if you can do without it, I say OK.
Sorry, I can't think of any better words to explain...we need Matthew BACK ON LINE providing pictures!

Dick, the dark strip is what secures the top to the car, I would definitely use it. The stainless is just for trim. If one would ever want to remove the stainless to fix a dent of re polish it, you could do that without the top coming loose. Make sure the screws you use to mount the dark strip are very low heads or countersunk so they don't make a hump in the stainless trim when you tighten it down.
Roger is correct on the additional latch on convertible doors.

Dick, if like me, you struggle to figure out how to open the link Tom spelled out (but didnt highlight

I did some searching and found the topic. I don't know how to direct you to it, other than to say
in the search box at the top of this page, type in "Looking for Conv pinich well molding for boot snaps".
