Is this the correct Auto Dimmer Set Up?

Post by Mark Evans »

I found a Auto Dimmer set up. Can anybody confirm that this is the correct Scanner and control box from the Photos?

That's it! Although the correct eye was silver.
Also missing the base on the pics

Can you send me a Photo email of the correct Scanner base and also a photo from the rear of your car showing the correct side to side orientation of the Rear antennas

if I'm not mistaken, the scanner base is right there below the scanner...the plated screws are pointing at it...perhaps you don't recognise it because it is the tall version. Were I in the market, I'd buy this ASAP, and worry about the correct base later. (maybe you can cut this one down?) This looks to be in good condition, and complete. :D

Happy New Year to all,
I bought the Auto Dimmer Set shown in the Photos. I want to share the Source with the Forum.
The person I bought it from has a few more units for the 1959 Plymouth and others. He has all the test Eq, and spare parts .All units are Inspected, tested and rebuilt as shown in the photos. He can rebuild yours or supply the complete set-up except for the short base , I plan to cut mind down as Roger suggested. Each unit is priced based on what they needed , mine cost $370
John provided a copy of the Install Instructions in the PDF below.
I will post this Info on the Vendor Section also
His name is John Oldenburg, his email is, olden@yousq.net

Question: Should the Dash Scanner to match painted the Dash Color?

Ah, congratulations! The name John Oldenberg is faintly familiar.
I am unable to answer your question on painting the Autronic Eye. I don't recall ever seeing an original Plymouth-installed Autronic Eye (unless Wil Eichelberg's car has one). I think my Eye had a grey base and black Eye. Since you are aspiring to have your car appear factory-original, only two people who MIGHT know come to mind...Tom Fox and Robert Hinds. (For a long time Mr. Hinds held the position of 1959 Plymouth Tech advisor for the Plymouth Owners Club.)

Great sleuthing, Rankinrr! That is Octie Ham's car, and the photo backs up what Matthew says..with the 59 Plymouth, the scanner is silver, the base is black. Maybe someone knows how to contact Octie, to learn why he believes silver is the correct color for Plymouth.
I think the Imperials had black scanners, and since the Imperials were the big-buck cars, it stands to reason that most remaining scanners to be found out there will be black.

I met Octie in Carlisle in 2010 (last time I was there) when he was selling parts in the vendor section. I wouldn't be surprised if he will be there again this year. And maybe Dan has contact info, would make it a lot easier to find him :D
I will be there to help looking for him, this morning I made resevations for a hotel just outside Carlisle. Also booked a room for John Quinn, I will go to Denver and make the road trip with him to Carlisle 8)

Dan Morton or the Keijs should know how to contact Octie. Octie was/is? a member of this List. Many members seem to drift off once they complete their car :( .
