What is the Correct Dual Antenna Location

Post by Mark Evans »

I am drilling the holes for the Rear Antennas and I have the Factory Template
The outline of my trunk opening does not match the Template copy I am using at the straight edges, the Radius is OK . I am having difficulty matching both sides for the correct fore and aft location and also the angle in ref to Fin line and the trunk opening. I cannot use the template to find the correct angle in Ref. to the Fin and Trunk fore and aft edge
Should the Antennas bases be parallel to the Fins or what?
Does anybody have any tips or Photos of the correct location?
I might be over thinking this one ,but I do not want a big hole in the wrong location

I understand your trepidation and tendency to over-think this, and I wish I could help.
The template radius should locate you fairly well. Your body man may have altered the trunk's opening in order to improve the factory fit, which often wasn't very good.
It would seem logical that the antenna bases should be parallel to the fincaps, but maybe they should be lined up parallel to the over-all car. Mine started life as a Belvedere front fender antenna, and I did install dual antennas, using a template given me by Tom Fox. I think the Keijes have that template now (or else it's lost).

Roger
I have the same template that you can download and print from" How To " Section of the Forum. The radius match up, but not the Top and Side of the Trunk Outline.
The parallelism to the Fin or the Trunk Side edge is really the Issue , A Photo from the Rear of the car shooting down the Fin and trunk opening line with the Antenna mounted would be a big help.
I agree the Body shop caused my Problem.
Thanks , Mark

Okay. Seems like if the bases parallel the caps, the over-all look will be "pigeon-toed". I vote for parallel-to-axles (for wont of better description). Dick Koch is on here often, and has an original Sport Fury...hope you hear from him. :)

I am attaching a picture of where Tom Foxe's antenna is mounted, my green car has the antenna mounted in the same place.

From this angle of photo, it appears the antenna base is in line with the fincap, which can't be a whole lot different than the axle-to-axle line. This antenna location looks "natural" and correct.
My prediction is your car will never be demoted based on antenna location...if it ever does, then you were hanging around with the wrong crowd!
