'59 Plymouth Forum

This is just out this week and Hemmings Classic Car, November 2012 cover issue features the Top 25 Plymouths you must own! This is there opinion of course but some of us agree with them. I don't want any copyright infringement issues, so I strongly urge you to go out and buy this issue if you want.

Number 14 selection of the 25 is the 1959 Belvedere Convertible....... What???? Yep that is right...The Belvedere Convertible! Now we all are in support of all things 59 Plymouth and all but this time (as I have done for years!) have to toot my horn again on the Belvedere model.

PS Number 23 on the list is the 70 Cuda (which I also own a Convertible version too) so it is a banner day at the Quinn Casa!

Just my opinion, but I think the reason the Belvedere cvt wins out over the Sport Fury cvt in this particular poll is because it was the more-affordable-in-its-day version. While roughly equal numbers of SF cvts and Belvedere cvts were produced, the "average" working man would more likely have owned the less expensive Belvedere.

I do agree, Roger. Just love it when they do call out the Belvedere trim. In adding up the options that came with my car when I found her, it was like $350 difference in what was standard for the SF and what extra options that the original ordering of my car had added on to make it almost to the SF level. That was a lot of money back then but the dollars difference today seems like nothing.

I had the Deluxe steering wheel, dash pad, radio, ashtray & clock already on my car which added in a lot of the extra standard items found on an SF on her. I went further on my restification and added the SF variable wipers, jiffy jet washer bag, rear back up lights, dual mirrors and of course I loved the SF swivel seats and the fabric that was standard on a SF. So Secretly, I too wanted the best of an SF options on my car too!.

To actually have the 59 Plymouth called out on this list is great for all of us who love this year, but for us Belv'y drivers we really like this magazines call out on the Belvedere trim. I don't think that many of the 5K manufactured Belvy converts survived today because of the simple trim that it had compared to the SF. People would have taken better care of a SF then a Belvedere. I think you mentioned that at some time. We were the parts cars for many a SF.

Just one day in the sun is great for us Bevly convert guys..... Again, if I find a SF convert needing restoration I would be all over it! I would then be tooting the SF trim horn loudly too!

John, you did well in the last post! We were almost ready to ban you, we would have missed you though and I might would have become a member of the 59 Belvedere forum

But maybe it is true that the Belvy is worth more $$$ than a Sport Fury, but how are we going to find out if nobody is selling his Belvy

it is my nature to be "not in the lead", not drawing undue attention. I guess I inherited my mother's humble nature. So it actually was tough for me to own a SF convertible. I constantly felt like a spectacle, or a braggard.
I think a cool station wagon would be more my speed.
My dear Mom peacefully passed away last night, ending her years of slow decline. Love ya, Mom.

Roger, my condolences on the passing of your Mother, Who you are is shaped by your parents love and direction. Your Mother did a good job with you and your siblings. She is at peace and is looking out and over you right now. I wish you strength to endure the next few weeks...

So sorry for your loss of your Mom. stay strong and remember all the good times, not the slowly declining health times.
My Mom passed in 1994 and I remember her and my Dad that passed in 2001 every Sunday in church and many times during the week.
Stay strong and be thankful for all the time you had your Mom in your life. We will keep you in our prayers.

Wonderful words, Curt. She was a blessing to this world and was a prime example of the best of Christian living..service. love and faith. I am not a religious person, but she had hymnals and Bibles which she kept in low profile. She also had a Day Book which contains daily quotes to read and contemplate. There was just one crocheted marker in the book, and it was placed in the September 11, 12 page. She passed on Sept 14. She lost the ability to read long ago. If I begin to read just one sentence from either the Bible or Hymnal I go to pieces. She was the sweetest, kindest soul there could be. She will make a great angel.

Very sorry Roger. Lost my mom a year ago and of course the wound is still fresh. My thoughts are with you.

My condolences, Roger. It's always tough no matter the situation. I lost my folks a few years ago. Toughest one I think is when my younger sister died at age 30 from diabetes. Like Dick said, time will heal.
