Chat needs summarizing

The chat is nice, but will could someone please summarize for the rest of us. What is an ECU? Apparently Matthew (and others?) have solved the cvt's ignition problems....very exciting! I really want to understand all of what's happening/happened.
Was my carburetor in fact okay?
Ron is correct, I painted the Pertronix components black to make it less obvious. I had asked the mechanic to conceal the components, but I guess the wire lengths limited such a wish.
What is the story on carb gasket?
Let me know what I did wrong, so I can do right on next car!

Roger, don't worry!
I took pics so we can post them. That will explain it better then me think of words to explain it.
The carb ended up good.
Think we can post pics tonight (Dutch tonight)

thank you Matthew-I am a chronic worrier, so it will surely help if I get a summary!
The mention of spinning tires is what I want to hear! I never got that experience after ten years of resto; it is a 361 4 bbl.... did I have the kick-down out of adjustment? Please explain when you can !

Roger,
The carb was fine but the problem was the gasket, if you look at the picture Matthew posted you'll see that the holes were not as they should be. So if you tried to accelerate the carb would get more fuel but not enough air. That was the stalling moment and after a few seconds it would be fine again.
Ecu stands for Engine control unit and it is the part you painted black to make it almost invisible. They are known for going bad for no reason and if you don't have a spare it is time for some exercise
They can fail because of heat or because of voltage fluctuating.
What is your next car going to be? Thinking about another 59, there is a good Belvy for sale and it is not too far away from you.
Ron

Thank you, Ron, for answering my questions.
You remember the little town of Orting, where I used to live. I paid a shop there to remove the two barrel carb and intake manifold off that 1961-dated engine, and to install a 4 bbl intake and carb. I don't recall now who supplied the gasket, but obviously the shop was lacking in intelligence!
But I am surprised that the Enumclaw mechanic would install the ECU in an area where engine heat might affect it. I am so glad you are solving these problems.
Where did you get another ECU so quickly?
The a/c decal looks great!
