MUCH ADO ABOUT A LOT.

Post by Dick Koch »

Well, we came thru Irene unscathed. We had dark grey clouds from the east with feeder bands of sporadic rain. But no constant rain. I took the covers off my Costco Garage (spray booth) because its old and feeble like me, I need it to last until I finish the Convertible but it was entirely unecessary, we had a little wind but not much. Putting it back on is a bitch. I'm sorry to say but it looks like Dan, Ed and the rest of you on the east coast will get the brundt of Irene. Thanks for praying for us here in Florida. We will do the same for you. Batten up and make sure your generator starts up.
Wishing you well.
Dick.

I am glad to hear you were spared any damage, Dick.
Good luck to the rest of the east coasters!

Thanks for the update1

So glad the effect on you was minimal, hopefully the severity fizzles before it heads up the eastern seaboard.

I am glad you were spared Dick. We did not fair as well in MD.

We were without power for 33 hours (we have only lost power 3-4 times in the last 24 years and the longest was 4 hours).
We took our freezer contents 20 miles away to a friend with power. Of cousre the power was restored at our house as we were dropping off the food! Many trees and power lines down. I lost a tree in my drive way and many branches from a small wooded area behind my house. There is a 75' pine tree that uprooted and landed on power lines, then pulled up a telephone pole right near my house. It has not been looked at by the power company
My Daughter's school system started Monday but her school has no power. She may miss the entire first week of school.

I am sure my northern buddies along the coast and some miles inland suffered the same or worse than I did. Hopefully they will check in soon. No damage to my house or cars that I have found anyway.

Now there is another Tropical storm brewing with its eye set on the East Coast.

First an Earthquake then a hurricane - Where do I live - oh yeah MD - HUH???

Stay safe,

Curt 8)

Curt - Glad to hear you are safe and well, believe me I know what you have been through, I was born in Mississippi, raised in New Orleans and moved to Florida lower east coast in 1961. I'm 75 yrs. old and have been throught at least 28 hurricanes in my life time. Ten direct hits or magor, the rest close enough to have effect and make you worry. In 1965 Betsy came throught West Palm Beach, afterward my wife and I went to visit family in New Orleans and Betsy came right up the Mississippi river, sat thru that sucker twice. I know they are no fun. Especially the no electricity part. I have a generator now and it really helps.

Glad that everybody is OK! And I will not complain about our shitty Dutch weather anymore, it is just annoying that it always rains when I want to go to a car show but we don't have extreme weather like you guys.

I heard from Dan Monday and he is doing fine. There was a short power outage but other than that no troubles in Upper Darby.

I am over the moon this time. We took a trip to Longwood Gardens in Faulkner, where this picture was taken. As she says, "the boy with the car gets the girl". Boy, I sure hope so...

Alright Dan, but be careful, I hope her last name is not Wright.
