Junk yard Belv'y convert
Here is the pictures of the Very Very Rusty Belv'y convert in Upstate NY. I have been trying to get some close up pictures of this car for almost a year now to see if there is anything useable on it. You can see that the Frame is returning back to it's basic elements of raw materials.
Have to wait til spring to try again to get more info on it. Pictures were taken two years ago so even more deteriation on the old girl. "I think she should buff out fine"
If I can rent a Sikorsky Heavy Lift Helicopter I think I can get it out....
But alas, I only have a fixed wing rating...

Re: Junk yard Belv'y convert
John,
These photos bring tears to my eyes...I cannot explain...The car is not an "in progess" restoration in someone's garage or driveway...it is a true cast-off, abandoned, given back to the elements from whence it came.
This is worth salvaging...if only for the glass and window mechanisms! Frames and bodies can be obtained, and engines and all that too. It's just as well I don't know where this "car" is, or I'd be hanging around out front!
It does look like it's missing the valuable folding top mechanism.......

Re: Junk yard Belv'y convert
I agree Roger, This is in your old stomping grounds of upstate NY. Frames can be fabed with the X member and without a top it would be a "Roadster". If I was closer I would snag it. I always kept this car in the back of my mind if I wanted to "pull the trigger" on it. It is in a Salvage yard and they guy would not tell me where so I would have to deal with him to get it.
I would have to see it before I would plop down the money for it. Same as for the Georgia SF vert.
I am going to purse the Rhode Island SF Convert if it is still there and figure a way to get it out of the warehouse....

Re: Junk yard Belv'y convert
John, upstate NY is a very large region!...I was born and raised in a small suburban town 35 miles north of NYC...I do not know NY State, and even less since I moved to Washington 20 years ago.
This is the first you or anyone has mentioned a Rhode Island cvt. Are you not content with the cvt you have? Do you have The Affliction that bad!?

Re: Junk yard Belv'y convert
It is 12 easy steps to get off this kick! Naw, I love my Bevl'y. I just really like FWD Look stuff. I would love to have a 60 Chrysler Convert also. The styling on that car is super. Dodge would be great too! Just love the styling.
Another 59 Plymouth convert would be great too! Once you get into the guts of one of our cars and reduce it down to how they were built. Nothing phases you to tackle another one. I can't afford the restored ones but a car like Dick's convert or even my own is great bones to begin with. Even a true survivor one I would not rebuild if it is already a driver. Sometimes it's best to leave well enough alone on a car when it is an original.
I would not mind going to Sweden and reclaiming a few of our FL cars and bringing them back. Wishful thinking of course! The Swedes have done us a favor and grab our cars in the 70 - 90's when we did not care for them anymore. There are still cars out there to be discovered here in the US
I am hunting down a 58 Plymouth convert about an hour a way from me and trying to rescue that car from sitting in a farmers field for 20 years. I know the guys name and will try to convince him that it is best for me to have the car then rusting out in a field.
Sorry I went on a bit...

Re: Junk yard Belv'y convert
Is that Belvy the one that Jeff Nichols was trying to sell?
My own car came from upstate New York, from the town of Ithaca. I googled the original owner's name, and found a family of the same name lived near there until the late sixties, but the trail stopped there.

I am not at all clear on this either. Mr Quinn will have to provide more info-
My own Belv cvt spent its life in Iowa, if anyone is keeping track.

Ithaca's a beautifull college town in wine country I think. I can see a college prof w/tweed jacket behind the wheel.

Roger, I was under the impression that you, Roger, hailed from NY. The context was where the convert is located not where your Convert came from.rogerh wrote:I am not at all clear on this either. Mr Quinn will have to provide more info-

If you are not from NY then I mis-styped!

Bingo! Yes, John, this is the same convert Jeff e-mailed me on, but then the trail went cold from thereI sent him a bunch of emails but no response to see what shape it is in now. Both the "Car" and Jeff Nichols are both in upstate NY.

Hey Steve, Well, I had to google where you live and always thought you were nearer NYC with the "Southern Tier of NY" Now I know where you 'Be"!Steve Storey wrote:When you find out where it is John let me know and i'll check it out for you!!!??? Steve in upstate NY

I will pursue Jeff Nichols and see if we can get some info from him on this car.Sounds like John Fowlie knows him or of him too. It would be a lot closer for you to check it out since you are in that neck of the woods!
Thanks!

I was born and raised in downstate NY, some 30 miles from NYC.
Am I to understand that John Fowie got his rusty cvt from "Jeff" in Ithaca, and this OTHER cvt shown in pix at the top of this thread is yet ANOTHER cvt that Jeff knows of?
And then John Q. lets slip that he knows of a cvt in some warehouse in Rhode Island...?
I'm getting a headache....
