I have got a hold of a 59 4 door with very good body but the engine is shot- 230 6 Cly.
I am thinking about installing a 318,360,383 or 400 in her -depending on some answers her and what I can find in an engine.
What engines-v/8 did the old lady come with? What would I need to do about motor mounts-front? I would also install a newer trans with some hidden floor shift or cable deal- any ideas as to what would work? thanks

THe '59 Plymouth could be had with a 230-straight 6, a 318, or a 361. Trans were either 3-spd manual, or cable-shifted auto, either 2-spd Powerflite or 3-spd Torqueflite. The parking brake was transmission=mounted.
New engine mounts will have to be welded in for any engine change. The engine compartment is large enough for almost any engine and accessory.
Deano just completed putting a hemi in his car. Someone on another site was putting a v-10 Prowler engine in his.
When you go with a newer transmission, you will have to come up with a different form of parking brake, or lose the cable shift, or both. Some folks find it easier to install a newer engine, transmission and rear end (one that has parking brakes, splined axles, etc).
