I am trying to verify the application for a 4 bbl intake, casting number 1828103 with a Carter AFB. I am thinking this was for a 318, but am not totally sure. What is this for, and what years will it fit ? I purchased it off Ebay a couple of years ago, and it was listed as coming off of a 1958 318, and showed fitting 57 - 65. I bought it as a spare, but have never really looked into it till now. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You
Tim Baker

In my Mopar Passenger Parts Books, 1955-59, there is no such item with that number.
I am no expert, but I think this could mean it could be from "other than passenger car", meaning truck.
I am betting that John Fowlie, with his library of car manuals and his years of experience, can answer your question.

It seems that this is obviously not correct for a 59 318, but will it work ? Here a a few pictures. code is 1 4 - 9

My 59 Plymouths are not here at home for me to look at, to even see if the design is similar.

The code has no real significance, I think it indicates where it was manufactured.
I did an internet search and found a site which suggests your intake is off a 1962-67 Plymouth /Dodge 318. It should be a direct bolt-on. You may find some pollution control ports you wouldn't necessarily need, and hopefully the generator brackets and such will still bolt where needed, since generators were phased out in that era.....

Thanks for the information. I took it over to my car, and like you said it looks the same with the mounting. The intakes are different between the early and later 318 engines right ?

I simply don't know. The answer will have to come from John Fowlie or RickyMopar or some other knowledgeable source. (To my eyes, your manifold looks exactly like the '59 version.)
Have you searched Dick Koch's restoration photos...I think he had a pic of a 318 manifold he painted)

The manifold pictured is most certainly for a poly A engine, so it will work fine on your '59. The LA 318 intakes are quite a bit narrower than the poly intakes.

Thanks for the "pro" input. I will never learn the "A" and "LA" and RB stuff...leaving the room to learn OTHER stuff (like how to get a job)

Your casting number does not show in my books. but I do know the casting is a 1958 number. It will bolt on your Plymouth A engine. The 58 manifolds usually were sans the choke well, and used a bakelite bi-metalic choke unit that was fastened to the side of the AFB carb. These had an exhaust manifold small tube connected to them to influence the choke warm up.

Thanks for the information. It is nice to know it was a 1958 intake like I was told. What is the 4 bbl intake casting number for a 1959 Plymouth 318 ? How many years past 59 did they use the same casting number ? My car is in getting the paint touched up, and I can't just go into the garage and look at it. I searched online for the other intake, but never found information, at least the places I looked at.

Thank You

a friendly reminder: the casting number is not the Part Number.
The number (1828 103) is the Mopar Part Number.
Occasionally a part was applied in more than one year. I don't have any parts books beyond 1959, so I can't find out if this manifold was used beyond its specific year, assumed to be 1958.
The Mopar Part Number for a 1959 Plymouth 318 with "power package" is 1851 762. :)

This manifold will bolt onto 1966 A engines, but this type manifold ended in 1959, being the choke well showed up in 1960.
