Need help with 318 engine timing pointer

I am new to the forum. I am admittedly not a Mopar guy. Only had one, 1966 Dodge R/T 440.

I am attempting to help my son-inlaw with his 59 Savoy. He took the distributer out and lost the timing. I managed to get the car running using Kentucky windage because there doesn't seem to be a pointer on the engine anywhere to determine TDC. I found what looks like a mark on the pulley but nothing to line it up with. Can anyone help me ?

This will be right up RickyMopar's "alley". Please check back for his reply.
Yes, the vibration damper has a mark on it, and there is supposed to be a pointer bolted there to align things.
Without the pointer, its gonna be wierd.

Hi Ba2,

So you say you're not a Mopar Guy?.......Stick around here long enough and we'll all convert you!

I have attached a couple of pics here to show you the part that you are looking for and its location, also some info from the shop manual on how to line up the distributor after removal.

Hope this helps

Thank you Daniel. This info is very helpful. Especially the pictures. I had no idea what the pointer would look like. Now to find one. Will the pointer from any other engines work? I have been educated real quick on this engine. Will the pointer for an LA engine work? You don't perchance have one?

BTW I could have become a Mopar guy back in 1969 if the dealer had worked with me on the Hemi Cuda I wanted to buy. But he didn't and I went with a Mach 1 Ram-Air Cobra Jet and the rest is history.

Thanks,

Nat

One guy we all go to for parts is John Fowlie, in Williams, CA. He owns a salvage yard called Big M Auto, and has many Mopars. He would probably know about interchange.

Thanks for the plug, Roger.

My e-mail contact is bigmauto@colusanet.com

I can supply the pointer you need, it's an inexpensive part.
