Windlace Installation

Does anyone know how the wind lace is attached around the doors, and is it the round style with a flap. I've seen some installation instructions for different cars online, some used tack strips and staples some glued, some have metal hold down strips, I'm confused what Plymouth used. The top of the door looks simple enough. Pull and twist the clips, and it tucks under that metal strap I think. The sides just have little pointy t clips. Do these poke through the wind lace? Do I glue them too? Or does the metal trim do most of the holding?

Ive gone ahead in making some DIY windlace after seeing some prices for it, I decided to make some myself. It's not factory, but it came out beautiful. I hope it holds up. I bought some gray upholstery an 5/8 foam backer rod, headed to my Mom's for a quick sewing lesson, and to use her sewing machine. We used a zipper foot to sew in close to the backer rod. $12 and 1 hour learning to sew = 40 feet of diy wind lace. :D

Nice job! Looks like yours is well done. Yes, the original (and repro) windlace is round foam, as you have used.
The windlace is held in place by pushing the clips thru the windlace fabric (or vinyl if it's made of that). Then the metal trim holds it securely (more or less). That's how they came out of the factory.

Thanks, that's great news! :D I was afraid I was missing some sort retaining strips. Some of this detail work is hard to figure out, it's not in the "manuals", and with the car being 14 years older than me I definitely don't have the prerequisite experience. I will start installing it today. With a 2 door sedan, does it just go around the doors? Thank you so much for your help.

WOW! What a difference wind lace makes. I only got the drivers side done so far, but the visual improvement so far is amazing. That gap next to the dash has always driven me nuts. Installing it is much more work than I thought. I had to take all the bolts out of the dash to move it enough to get the tack clip things in. So glad I did it though. I started hanging a J.C. Whitney headliner I bought years ago. I replaced the insulation while I was at it. Thank you all who did this before me for the how to postings and pictures. This web site is FANTASTIC! This is my first time doing this, and I am pleased with the results so far. Not perfect, few minor wrinkles, I probably should have bought a vinyl headliner so I could have shrunk it taught, but I didn't know any better. :) There is no way to shrink it now, is there? Oh well I'm still happy with it. :D Although I really should have re painted my door frames first. :| Sorry the pictures are kinda bad, it got dark on me and my phones camera doesn't do so well in the dark.
