needing a leader?
needing a leader?
Are we "good" here , or do we need our leader to promote conversation?
What has happened to our membership?...JRon Keij, John Quinn and Nighthawk and upstate NYer are present and accounted for...but it seems to me that many initial members have since dropped out, which makes me sad. I suppose it is inevitable that people will come on line and then drop off...we can only generate a certain level of "back and forth"

Re: needing a leader?
Roger is right, It's been way to quiet out in 59 Plymouth land. Lets hope now that it is spring time more of us will come out of hibernation dens and get to working and showing off our cars.
I know out here in Colorado it has been getting warmer out. It was 65 on Thursday and snowed 12 inchs on Friday. Was 40 today and 55 tomorrow, 65 on Monday ( I need to call in sick on Monday!) Hope the weather is doing better in all the areas so we can start thinking more about 59's.
Been busy here, Got the heater core pressure tested, Ok on that one. Radiator failed miserably. 5 rotting leaky holes in the lower tank. To do a 3 core will cost $400 scooters! Going to wait on that one, I will use my 69 charger radiator for a while. I have arranged for a motor break-in on my 60 413 RB at a local Mopar shops test stand. $100 for a break in run and carb tune. At least I will know there will be no surprises when she slips into the convert. Money well spent i think.
Still only partial use of the Right arm. (Torn Rotater Cuff) But ketting better every week. Some friends (people I owe money to) will help me on the engine tranny install. With the front clip off, should be a lot easier to put it in. Bought a 67 Dodge Dart low profile Master Cylinder today at Advance Auto and will now start on the disc brake conversion soon. Hope that does well, With Stefan's step by step instructions, it should go well. Also, tore apart my Bellows Power Brake Booster and had the front plate media plasted for a Cadmium Paint job.
Kinda took over Roger's call to arms Thread but wanted to let others know what I am up to and hope we can start a "What's new for 2010 " thread to prime the pump for this year!

Re: needing a leader?
Well, i guess theres only so much at times we can talk about on here, but i think once the weather gets better for most of us and the cruises and car shows begin, there'll be more to discuss!
The other day, i woke my old Plymouth from its winter sleep, changed the oil, greased it, serviced it and took it our for a drive around, its been unseasonably warm here in Toronto Ontario the past couple of weeks, so i thought it was fitting to get one of my old cars out, my 59 Chev is another garage not far from here, and ill bring it home sometime in April, cruise nights and shows start here the first week of May, so ill be glad to get out in the cars, see the other car show guys and gals, looking forward to it!

Upstate NYer is alive and well. Am busy unstoring cars and finishing up my latest-41 Buick Coupe hotrod. My mother insists I have too many cars so have listed two on the inner net. I think the economy and advancing age are slowing many of us down. Fortunately I've always been very immature.

Atta Boy Night Hawk and Steve S.!
I think we are all waking up from a winters nap and what we are doing with our cars might be of interest to others. Seeing about ohtes activities are doing spurs the rest of us on. (at least people like me who are almost done getting their cars on the road for the first time!)
What helped me was watching thru pictures, Dick Koch's progress. So I started up the small assembly work of trim, garnish mouldings etc that I could till my shoulder heals up for bigger projects.

Re: needing a leader?
good to hear from the Foursome again. I know Dick Koch is out there too, and he has been good about sharing pics of his car resto.
Yeah, its' been winter everywhere but Australia. (Do they call it winter anyway, even if their seasons are reversed?). I heard from Aussie Vic Barone (he imported a cvt from Oregon). He's been working on power windows and engines and trannnies. His car may be done in 2010, much like John Quinn and Dick Koch.
Although I won't be attending Carlisle this year, I do hope to enter my car in the Central WA regional WPC, and I just learned of another big Mopar show in Oregon, held one week earlier.
Yes, the winter has been long and difficult for many, and the economic trials are causing much suffering. Gas is back above $3/gallon again. My job future is uncertain at best. What I do have is friends with Mopars, and I miss many of those who have drifted away from 59SF.

Roger, I am a member of several other forums dedicated to other years of Plymouths, and every one of them has had less activity than usual the last few months. I myself have been too busy to resume on my own '59 project, but hope to soon.

Re: needing a leader?
Hi All,
I keep drifting to this forum and I will do that for many years to come I hope. Have been very busy with other things too this past winter and sometimes I don't have (or take) the time to post but I read all messages and try to keep up every day. I have been slow on emails too.
Today I sent an email to Curt Lambdin (Savvy 59) as I did not hear from him in a while. Within hours I got a reply from his wife Jo Ann that he is not doing well at all
A few weeks ago he was all positive about his situation and was felling a little better every day and looking forward to Carlisle but now he is hospitalized again. A few lines from Jo Ann's email:
Unfortunately, Curt's great progress a month ago, has been curtained by lots of infections. It's been really rough go of it for the last 3 weeks. He spent 5 days in Ho. Co. hospital about one and a half weeks ago. He had sepsis, UTI and bladder infections. When they released him on 3/10 he was actually feeling pretty good and eating much better. However, by the next day he was very nauseaous again. He hung in there until this Tuesday when I finally got hold of the urologist on call. They prescribed Cipro and the ID specialist prescribed Flucazonole for his infections. We waited two more days and still Curt did not feel much better.....almost so weak he was sleeping alot and then waking up.
So...Curt is now in the Coronary Care Unit at GBMC Room #44. I think they put him there because of his low blood pressure issues. I have no telephone number as Curt can't reach the phone and really doesn't feel much like talking.
They have taken many cultures, blood work, and have given Curt lots of fluids and antibiotics already. Dr. Haile, the Infectious Disease doc, said he should know more today (Sunday 3/21) regarding what Curt has and how they can treat him. The doc has said it will be tricky since Curt is allergic to lots of antibiotics now. The doc did give him an antibiotic yesterday to treat sepsis. Then we are hoping Dr. Tutrone, his urologist, will see him on Monday.
I just spoke with Curt, from home, and he told me his hematacrit is down to 28. If it goes much lower he made need a blood transfusion. His blood pressure is still low and he had a lousy nights sleep last night.
I hope that eveybody in this group will keep Curt in their prayers! He needs his friends with Mopars now more than ever.
Ron

Re: needing a leader?
I guess I've certainly been remiss! Apart from giving the website and the forum a nudge now and then, I've been keeping a low profile.
So for those who don't already know my story: Marie and I are calling it quits after 14 years together. We both agree it's for the best, and the split is amicable. For the past 5 months, I've been focused on where I'm going to move (Upper Darby! http://www.mcweton.net/7111) and packing boxes. Friday is settlement; then, the move. It will take at least a week for me to settle in, and an month or so for Faulkner's new digs to be ready.
...and then maybe I can start acting like a human being again!
I'm looking forward to Spring Cruise Nights (I'll be coming over, Ed Ober!) and spending more time on the website. And I'm looking forward to Carlisle, and spending time with my old cronies!
I'm down, but I'm not out. Old Plymouth enthusiasts never die, they just resurface in a new swap meet!
Ron, thanks for forwarding that note -- I just now called Jo Ann, on her return from the hospital. Curt did indeed get the transfusion; he's seems to be perking up a bit. Agreed -- Curt is going to need all of our prayers. Wouldn't it be great if he were well enough to go to Carlisle! We could drive down to Ellicott City, and between the two of us coax the pair of '59's to Carlisle, while Jo drives Curt and Grace in the van. Oh, I hope...
John Q, are you planning to stay at Chez Morton this summer, en route to Carlisle? We have aqua therapy for that shoulder in the back yard!
I'm soon to go offline (Friday) -- I'll be taking the week following settlement to unpack, and hunt for the spatula and the remote -- but if Verizon gets their act together, I might have a functional computer as soon as Monday 3/29. See you guys on the other side!

Re: needing a leader?
Dano, I will keep Curt in my prayers, Good guy, I talked to him last summer when he had that bad spell and you wanted us to call him. What a journey he has been on all these years.
I have made reservations at the Best Western in Mechanicburg for Friday and Saturday night. Now....What day should I fly in on? Thursday, so I can stay a Chez Mortons (now a Club Med Destination!) that night. Or Friday AM, don't know when you guys like to get to the event. I then will mooch a ride with you and Ron in Faulkner to the event. Then after all the festivies (and me saying it is Humid there). Should I then make my departure on Sunday (7-11) in the evening or on Monday Morning?
Being a Carilse newbie, I just don't know the lay of the land or how long you stay at the event. And I don't want to mess up your plans on how you attack this show.
As long as I am on the east coast I might as well fly down to visit the Parental units for a couple days in No. Carolina after the car show.
Operators are standing by for guidance on this trip.

Sorry to hear about your split Dan, but its good that its amicable, i never mentioned it but i did the same thing 2 years ago, altho in my case i stayed in the house and she moved out ( we had a marriage contract) and it was in our best interests to do this, and i feel my ex and i are now are both better off, i met a lovely woman who im with now who loves the old cars and the cruise nights, so im sure better days are ahead for you!
I love the pics of the house youre moving to, we'd love to get there for a visit someday!

Re: needing a leader?
I wrote a reply to this thread earlier this evening, but I am not seeing it appear, so at risk of repeating myself in print, here goes...
Dan, I titled this thread in a rush, as my daughter was hee and she loves to be playing her computer games..
I really should have titled the thread...Missing our Leader", as we all accept you as our Fearless Leader. I hope you didnt' bristle at my less-than-thoughtful thread title.
And I am very seriously concerned over Curt's precarious condition. My frend just lost his 79-yr old father to sepsis brought on by undetected urimary blockage. It sounds as though Curt has a phalanx of knowlegeable doctors who are fighting for and with Curt.
My prayers are for his speedy recovery.

Ron and I will get an early start for Carlisle on Friday -- if you can't come out Wednesday, better to come Thursday afternoon so you can get settled in before we leave. We'll be returning from Carlisle on Sunday afternoon. Ron's leaving on Monday night -- so while I'm back to work on Monday, he can take you to the airport in the eggbeater
