Except, the * is an 8 -- an Acclaim with 63K miles. The interior is faded, but no rips or tears. There's a small leak from the valve cover, but it's right to Pep Boys after I get it registered. He wanted $1500, I paid $1200. A sweet little eggbeater!

Dan, You can get those 55 Dodge Chrome fins that bolt on. Thats probably as close as you are going to get...Oh well

I do have fins for you! I bought rust free rear quarters from John Fowlie to repair my 59 but we only used the lower portion. You can have the fins for the cost of shipping When John is done with welding his floors he is the guy to weld them on the Acclaim this summer!

hey speaking of welding floors... The weather broke here this week (hear that Dick Koch!) and it has been sunny and in the 50's all week.Weekend in the mid 55's, With no humidity here, that is like in the 70's.

So if all goes well, and I get some help due to the arm not functioning to well yet, I might get the Driver side tacked in.

I have to get rid of the interior undercoating (overcoating?) first, so I have clean metal to weld on. Any of you more seasoned 59 Pilots ever have to get rid of this stuff? I figured just heat it up with a propane torch and it might get soft enough to scrape off. Suggestions are welcomed? If you want to kick this over to the Technical or How to Section I will follow along like a new puppy.

My bad! one thing led to another and voila, we are talking about my inside undercoating and welding, I acknowledge that we should take this elsewhere so as to not impede you discussion on finding the last 89 Plymouth Acclaim still on this continent!

Yeah. Well, maybe not so sweet. I couldn't park it in my drive, because it continued to leak a bit; I blew a fusible link that I couldn't find, and had to pay to get fixed; the heater control valve on the firewall let go, so I had to shunt that (chilly drives back in March!); and now the brakes are making a bit of noise.

I guess I got what I paid for. Wait: I got less than I paid for. So I'm chalking it up to experience, and foisting it on my nephew (who isn't old enough to drive yet) to take apart and eventually have towed away from my brother's driveway.

In its stead, a 2005 Hyundai with 58K miles and a 5 speed. Bye-bye, *9 Plymouth...

So what happened to "buy American"

But I do understand your choice, before we moved to Zeeland we owned a Hyundai too I did not call it a car but it was our transportation.
But now that we use our car daily we bought a couple of Chryslers, currently we drive the Neon because the Sebring is in the garage again
This time it needs a new timing chain with all the extras, maybe it is time for us to buy a Prius

Just last week i got a new daily driver, a 2010 Chev Silverado, nicest truck ive ever had,we made the same models in the now closed GM plant that i worked in.
This one was made in Fort Wayne, Indiana

Looks like a nice truck! Thanks for buying (North) American! To bad your old Plant shut down... Two of the 5 plants I use to work at for Chrysler (in the 70's) are long gone.

Well, thanks for the compliment John Q, i was fortunate enough to have been retired for 2 years when that plant closed, i still wouldve had a job tho, in the car plant next door that makes Camaros, Impalas and soon a Buick model, both of the GM plants i worked in are gone now, i worked in a plant that made Chev and GMC vans for the first 19 years of my career, it was closed in 1993.

Gotta love seniority in a Union plant! Someone was glad you retired or they would have been bumped. I was local 212 UAW when I worked in the plants. Good bunch of guys!
