New to site, but not to Mopars

Post by FinnedMopars »

Hi Everyone,
Long post so be forewarned.
I swear, the internet has changed the world of car enthusiasts! About some 20 years ago, I caught the fever for finned cars. I asked a friend of mine which cars would have the biggest fins. He clued me in to Mopars. Back then, I had to comb the libraries and book stores for pictures and info. I decided I needed to find a 59 Plymouth. I religiously picked up the Auto Trader every week. I came across an add from someone looking for 59 Fury's. I gave him a call just to see if he had come across any 59's that he passed on. I was young and didn't have a whole lot of money. Turns out he had a collection of cars and invited me over. He had quite a few Fury's and a few Belvedere' s in various stages of disrepair. I picked out a light blue Belvedere that was mostly intact. In fact, it started up. It was in rough shape, but practically all there and the price was right. He also gave me a tour of his collection. A few warehouses filled with cars from the 50's to 60's. Many were in excellent shape. Through the years, I've picked up spare parts. Most of the time parts came very cheap because they couldn't get rid of them at the swap meets. Sadly, I haven't done anything with that car. Everything else took priority. I'm sure you know the story. I'm happy I came across this site. I have lots of irons in the fire, but I didn't lose the passion of cars.
I told you my post was long!

Peter, welcome to the site and the forum! Hopefully we can stir you on to beging work on your 59. What part of the country do you live in? We may have someone close by to help you out.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area. Some of the things I have on this Belvedere is the Moon view windshield. I think that's what they called the bubble top windshield. There's the mirrormatic. I thought that was one of the coolest things. There's also the toilet seat on the truck lid. Before I start back up on the 59 I need to get some other vehicles road worthy. I have some vehicles literally in the way. I have a 71 F250 4x4 I need to put the front D60 and power steering in. Then I have a 47 Dodge COE that can't easily roll out of the way. That thing needs brakes. It started when last parked. Once I get that thing rolling, I can get to the 59.

Peter, I love Cab Overs! They make great car hauling platforms for towing your other cars! When you get a chance, post a picture of that one. My brother lives in Sunnyvale and I will be out to see him next summer. I will call you then to meet you.

My brother belongs to numerous clubs out there including the Wine Country Mopar club. Ihave a Belvedere Convertible that is almost done. The car is painted and am repairing the floors right now. But a pending Rotator Cuff surgery on Jan 7th will take me out of the floor repair part. So I am going to do the dash with one hand for 6 weeks. If the weather is good here in Denveer next week maybe I can do the floor welding then. But the darn Snow keeps messing me up!
