Steering

Post by ginog01 »

Hi All,

I did not get my repair manual yet, but I would like to tighten up the steering, it has about 1 inch or more play in the steering wheel and it is very loose. Can anyone give me a quick way to tighten it up??? Thanks!

I tried to scan and post a page from the Service Manual, but I can't figure out how to accomplish that.
So, I will try a verbal description..
Assuming you have power steering, locate the steering unit at the end of the column.
Locate a large nut surrounding a smaller threaded bolt having a unique square head, and straight slot.
Loosen the large nut. With screwdriver, tighten the smaller bolt using the screwdriver.
Just snug it up, maybe even back off a teeny bit. Then tighten the big nut.
This takes out the slack (lash?) in the assembly.

Hi Roger,

I do not have pwer steering, but I see the box with the bolt and screw ( straight head) about 3/4 down the column. I will try the same process and hope that will do the trick. Sorry for the late reply, it has been a busy week at work. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours...
