Hi All,
Looking for a fuel sending unit for my 59 Plymouth Sport Fury. Other than on EBAY, does anyone have a working unit for a fair price they would like to part with??
Thanks,
Gino

Hi Gino-I've got one I cleaned up and got to read resistance again, but it is an original and sat in stale gas for decades. I decided to not install it in my new tank. If you want it you can have it for shipping charges. Guessing at $10. Steve PS i'll dig it out today, but i think I put a new float on it-not sure.

Gino,
Great looking car and nice history. Welcome to the forum.
Regarding the sending unit from Steve; there are several postings on the forum regarding sending units.
Check out this posting for a company in Akron Ohio that rebuilds and gives a limited lifetime warranty.

I would suggest having a conversation with these folks to see what they would charge to look over/rebuild Steve's unit.
It may be well worth the cost considering the cost/labor to drop the tank for a failed unit.

Gino-I dug it out and notice it has a new float, but the resistance reading aren't consistant. Probably why I elected to spring for a new one. You're welcome to this one, but i'd recommend making sure your guage has 12V and a wire connected to your sending unit. Also the sending unit must be grounded. Let me know if you want it. Steve

Steve,
I guess that I will pass on the offer. I checked out enay for a brand new one is about 90.00 and 9.00 for shipping, will keep any eye out on the price over the winter, maybe it will drop. Thanks again for all your time.

Wow, I didn't know brand new ones were even available! A good sign...maybe more of these obsolete items for our cars will turn up!

Good decision Gino. In this case new is definitely better.

I'm not sure if these new sending units are from the same manufacturer, but over on the ForwardLook board there have been numerous instances where the resistance of the replacement units was not compatible with the gauge in the cars, and therefore would not read right. This was not long ago, and referred to units being sold as new on E-bay.

I was directed to vansauto.com for the sending unit, does anyone have any concerns with this vendor. Can anyone confirm compatability with the original fuel gauge?? Thanks!

Gino,
As I mentioned earlier - why not take Steve's unit and have it rebuilt by the reputible Ohio vendor listed above and have the guarantee that it will work? I agree with Big M - New units are only good if they work!
The vendor seemed very reasonable to the forum member with a station wagon unit that was rebuilt by the vendor. It won't cost you anything but a call to the Ohio company to get a price!
Just my 2 cents of course.

Okay, I am going to see what is on my tank. The only thing I can remember is my father in law said the fuel sending unit did not work, maybe I will look at it and see what I can do with it first, if not I will take the original offer, if still available. Thanks again!!
