Today Jeff Carter's rebuild of my heater switch fell apart
Jeff's M.O. is to drill out the plastic rivets in order to access the switch's innards.
He cleans and lubes the slides, then re-assembles the switch using small threaded bolts. On my unit, these bolts don't have any "grab"...thus the failure. I've emailed Jeff for ideas. I think I could find some small screws that will better grab where they need to.
But what a hassle to remove that switch! I used a 1/4" box wrench, and a 1/4" socket held in my fingers...no room for ratchet, nutdriver or screwdriver unless one first removes the wiper switch, Trying to keep it simple!
I took the car out today (pictures to come) to a parade. The converted radio is still lame (my advice: don't spend the money on FM conversion). I got lots of attention on the road...tailgaters, folks who drive right next to you, staring.. one guy taking photos at 60 mph...my driver's door sticks(embarassing) but the 4 six-yr old girls dressed as princesses, sitting up on the back seat, got LOTS of attention!

I only just noticed the new "HOW TO" category Dan has set up (great idea, Dan), so this is the last I will add here on this topic: I walked the 4 blocks to the local hardware store and bought 6 small screws that fit perfectly, replacing the loose bolts. The easy part was done. However, re-installation was a bee-atch!
Upside down, with feet over the seatback, gas pedal pressing into the back of my head, trouble light burning my wrist, dash wiring etc blocking my view, I finally got it back in!

Feeling encouraged, I moved over a bit. The clock had stopped working some time ago, so I removed that (first the ashtray had to come out), and connected it to battery. It wound up just fine. Now I gotta put it right back in! (I wonder what made it work again? )
I still have to untangle the numerous vacuum hoses and route them correctly so I get HEAT when I press HEAT, not when I press A/C!
Ya gotta LOVE these cars!

Roger - Make it easy, take the front seat out, 4 nuts and presto, it's done.

Sounds good, but I'd rather lie on the seat than on the metal seat frame. I suppose a person could put a piece of plywood or cardboard on frame. For me, it was tougher to get my head up under the dash, and focus on teh scene with these danged new bifocals........

Roger - If i'm not mistaken the seats and seat frame are attached and comes out as one unit, at least it did in my Desoto.

Thought you were suggesting removal of drivers swivel only. Complete track w/seats would come out by removing four bolts, electrical connection to seat, and applying lots of muscle!
"easier" to hang upside down, IMO, althouth today my neck is sore!
