Hi Earl,

It's been a while since I've adjusted my cable -- but my recollection is you have to drop the pan to disconnect (or, adjust) the cable. I'll leave it to others on the Forum to check what may be my faulty recollection...

Removing the control cable from a torqueflite is very easy. Push the #1 button in. At the transmission end of the cable, remove the retainer clip that secures the end of the shielded cable to the control housing. Next remove the set screw that is on the side of the housing, then poke a small screwdriver into the hole and find a spring clip that will release the inner cable. Hold a slight tension on the cable so when you find the magic spot on the clip the cable will release and slide out. Be careful not to damage the O ring.

The end of the inner cable has a pointed end on it so when you reassemble, it will connect with the clip by just pushing it in. No screwdriver needed. On reassembly have someone hold the R button in as you push the cable back ito the control housing, then you retighten the set screw and replace the outside retainer clip.

Being that Lous car is a 6 cyl auto, it would have a powerflite trans, not a torqueflite.....

……..I’ve not had a six or a powerflite so I refer to the manual. The cable removal process for a powerflite is similar.

Remove throttle adjustment hole plug and allow transmission fluid to drain off to level of hole. Remove neutral starter switch to provide access to cable lock spring. Remove cable bracket screw and bracket. Insert screwdriver (or similar tool) through neutral switch hole. Push gently on projecting portion of cable lock spring and pull outward on cable.

Hope this helps, Tom
