Rear window moulding clips

Several of the rear window bottom moulding clips have rusted on my Canadian-built '59 Savoy. These are the V-shaped clips with stud that fasten with a sealing nut from inside the trunk. Question: Are there supposed to be drain holes at each end of the recessed area under the moulding, or am I looking at rust holes? When I removed the moulding I found a build up of dirt over those holes, so I don't know if they were supposed to drain any water that finds its way under the moulding or are the holes from rust? I checked Restoration Specialties and found a clip similar to the moulding clip. It is P/N 2946 on page 144. They call it a clip for the radiator/grill. Is this the same clip used for the rear window moulding? Any guidance appreciated.

Long time no hear, Joe. For those who don't know, Joe's Savoy is in the showcase:

I'm interested to know the answer to your question myself -- my strip needs to come off too, perhaps when Matthew is here. Can you post a pic of this clip?

I don't know of a supplier offering these clips, I generally have solid ones when I remove the trim.
The trough that is below this molding had a thick seam sealer applied to fill it, in order to keep water from puddling. The holes at either end you have found are from rust, and should be sealed up. Water getting in the trunk area from poor fitting rear windows and rust holes will cause extensive rust down the line. ---John

Thanks, John. I will proceed accordingly! Repair the holes and fill the recess. Now, to find those clips. As a last resort I can improvise, adapt, and fabricate the clips.

Thanks Matthew,
This Savoy may make it to my class of '59's 50th High School reunion in Michigan's U.P.

This sounds like the same clips Harvey Weaver was asking me about. He said there are 8, and they are for the bottom molding piece of the back window. Actually lays flat and the clips are through the metal between the trunk lid and back window. He is needing these as well.

Hey guys,
I lost out on the ebay auction that Matthew referenced; however, I did find another source for the fasteners:
www.rjlautofasteners.com
RJL Automotive fasteners
P.O. Box 143
Penfield, NY 14526
Ph/Fax 315 986 7121
They are $2.25 each.

Joe
