I'm in the process of putting the trim back around the front window.

Now, here's my problem. The lower part in the middle doesn't fit at all.
It is on the windshield rubber and on the side of the cowl it's up about 1cm. If i push it down it is leaning to the front.

Does anyone has tips or pics how it sits?

Matthew, send some pix of how it looks now...

Did you guys remove/re-install the windshield, install new rubber?

I've already tried a lot of things but it just doesn't fit.
The front window was out for the repaint and we replaced the rubber with a new one from Andy Birnbaum.
The side pieces already come up about 1cm and the center part is even worse.

I made some pics but they are on my dads camera.

I could try to borrow a camera and take a pic of mine. I took the sides and the top off but not the bottom. Still trying to get the top back to the way it was!!

The pieces are on the car now but not 100% like it should be. Also it gives a lot of tension on the windshield and it is cracked now

the stainless tension cracked the windshield?..no way. If it cracked, the windshield is not installed correctly, and therefore the stainless won't go in correctly.

When I was reinstalling the glass in my '57 Fury, I had also bought the Bernbaum window gaskets. A friend was helping me to install the glass, and after several hours of trying to fit the windshield, we came to the determination that the gasket itself was too thick. We nearly broke the windshield trying to force it in.
The rear window gasket was also not usable. All other items bought from Bernbaum were fine, however.
We ended up making a gasket for the front from a '77 Ford super cab, and the rear from two later model Jeep Cherokee gaskets, as they had the grooves to retain the moldings.

A good used factory gasket would be preferable, in my opinion, but here in the west they are usually brittle. Gary Goers sells repro gaskets, they may fit better than Bernbaums, although I haven't tried them. ---John

I have used windshield gaskets from Gary Goers in both of my cars and they were perfect. I have had good results from Gary on several of his products including most recently, roofrail weatherstrips.

Tom - That's good news about the Gary Goers windshield weatherstrip. I have one waiting to intall a new windshield in my Red and White 59 SF, unfortunately the windshield I have is not the bubble type. Have you ever installed the flatter type? The one I have is a moulded weatherstrip. It will be a while before I get back to restoring the Plymouth, I started a repaint on my 60 Desoto Adventurer because it was rust free. I figured I could get it done in a hurry but it has turned into a frame-on restoration. All the chrome and stainless is off, doors off, deck lid off, hood off, will replace carpet, the rest is real nice

I have installed a Savoy sedan windshield (flat type) using Andy Birnbaum's gasket with no problems. In fact, the glass busniss doing the install was amazed at the quality of the gasket.

I had a conversation with Restoration Supplies and he indicated that he was most likely the supplier to Andy for the gasket I used.
