oil canister replacement tip

leaks

I ve read on either this site or fwlook thst the adapter causes leaks.My car had one on it and all a long I thouht it was the rear main leaking,now that I ve seen that post I m not sure.Anyone heard of this?Charlie

Oil Canister Replacement

Twice, I've tried the Fram K21 adapter kit and experienced leaks. First time I used no sealant around base. Friend suggested I use (very carefully) a silcone sealant around base plate in addition to gasket. I tried that and still it leaked. So I went back to the original canister. A real pain to change filter. Maybe the Mopar kit that Bob Hinds mentions is of better quality than the Fram. Will have to give it a try.

Was searching forum for a different subject and came across this one so thought I would update. Last spring I tried the K21 adapter again, but this time with a Mopar gasket purchased from a Chrysler dealer, and lo and behold - no leaks so far. The Mopar gasket seems to be a different material than Fram. Anyway, no leaks, so now changing oil is hassle free.
