Re: Dick's convertible project
Dick's car looks good with floor boards needing replacing but the quarters look good. I think he scored a good one there! Your assessment is spot on Roger!rogerh wrote:Alright!
Pic 1) shows one, maybe two toplift housings...>good news!
4) shows one hood spring, but no worries, Dick has a parts car.
5) shows ONE sunvisor arm...these are cvt-only, hope you find the other one!
I see not ALL the wiring has been removed
9) Hooray, I see rear seat springs, so where are the front split bench seats? (got a set in the parts car, Dick?)
10) Obvious rust on drivers floor, expect the same on passenger floor (may need to get w/ Big M or Freman's, or the guy making NEW replacement floors).
Be hopeful that the rockers, trunk wells and trunk floor dodged serious rust, which I think is possible for a cvt, as long as it sits up off the ground and just gets rain or snow...no leaves or pine needles or mouse houses....
Would you agree about this last comment, John Q?, .. your cvt sat out on the range for xxxx years.

Thanks Tom! I need to remember that year. I went to Carlisle last year in 2010 and have to remember your visit was two years before in 2008.

Re: Dick's convertible project
Sorry Guys, been at a car show all day and when I got home my computer would not let me connect to my email, got it straightened out now.
John - The vin tag on my SF's is on the cowl like toms. So it seems any vin tag would suffice, right???. Or do I need on with M253. Any and all pictures would be welcome, let me know how much $$.
When I asked margie to look for a vin tag I told her the two locations she might find one but she told me she couldn't open/lift the hood to look on the cowl. My best friend is a used car salesman an he said he would help me get a Florida title and a Vin #. I will ask him if the car has to be finished first. I'll keep my fingers crossed that one is there on the cowl. He took a 54 Chevy Convertible that Made my Belvie look new and restored it as a street machine, it came out beautiful.

Re: Dick's convertible project
Alright, Already, Hold your britches on, Here are the pitchuhs. It's about what I expected, the body overall is in better shape than the red and white one I'm doing right now. I'm reasonable sure it was originall white. The windshield has a fisheye, looks to have been made by a BB. Windshield will stay, I can live with it. No seats, there is a seat spring but can't figure where it goes. It has snaps on it. One of those hard to find pieces that goes over the top cylinder is missing. It will need new floors and inner rockers, the outer rockers seem to be OK. It will need lower rear outer quarters but I think the trunk floor is saveable. The dash is all screwed up but I have a complete one in my parts car. It has power steering but standard brakes, I will put power brakes in it. The inner fenders have been cut for (headers maybe) the frame is real good. Ther is some kind of tag on the firewall held on with a screw right in the middle, I will take it off and clean it up, it is probably a door tag, it looks to big to fit on the cowl. Yea, the gas tank is there, no surface rust on bottom. It will be a long slow process but I'm up to it.
SEE THE PITCHUHS,
Dick.

Re: Dick's convertible project
It's not that bad! Just the floor.
I got a lot of parts for you Dick! It's just the distance. Got inner fender, front seat and stuff like that.
You have set of power brakes? I think we have an extra plate that goes against the firewall.
I think that seat is the back. Are those things on top the clickers for the top cover?

Re: Dick's convertible project
The spring set with snaps should be the rear seat back-support. The boot cover snaps to this. The other springset is the rear seat bottom.
Ah, another project to keep you young and active, Dick!
What names are on the bill of sale? anyone other than the recently deceased fellow? Put me to work seeking former owners!
I've NEVER seen a VIN tag where that one is located. Really, really wierd.
Please give us the VIN # and info from that tag.
THe cvt VIN tag is supposed to be high on the firewall, on the horizontal surface just under the hood.

Roger, i am not sure what this thing does over there but this is not the vin tag
The picture is showing the data plate and that one should be mounted on the passenger side behind the hood hinge

You are absolutely right, matthew. I called it a vin plate out of laziness. It is a data plate.

Re: Dick's convertible project
Shoot! it got by my roadblocks!!!
Looks good shape, Floors no problem. Roger and Matthew are correct on the seat with the snaps, it is the vertical part of the rear seat (good that you have that and the base, Horizontal part)
The data tag looks like the type I have on my 69 Charger and 70 Cuda. Please get a close up picture of that one. Curious to read the codes on it.
Weird location for it too as Roger has surmised...
