That's a Model D air unit, sold by Mopar dealers in 1959-60. Noisy as all get out, but would chill you to the bone. It has a big(BIG) circulating fan at the back of the evaporator unit, and used a RV2 compressor just like the factory a/c setups. An exploded parts diagram is shown in the 1959 Mopar parts book...listed with the factory air units. I'm using a early 60's unit by Mark IV when I do my 59 Fury resto this fall. I like the chrome face on this unit. (Pictured several quotes above)

I found this ad in my picture file. It's an older version MArk 4. Can anyone name the year of this car? I have seen some units like this at car shows and I'm thinking that this is what I should be looking for. . . . . .

SkyHawk 61 (Cessna 172?) Would the 58 and 59 model you confirmed that I had..Was this an underdash version attached to the lower dash frame or is it a floor mount unit? There was no brackets attached and no sign that there was any attached either.

Parts book photo breakdown of evaporator shows what appears to be a stamped metal top bracket (PN# 1981834) that attached the top of the evaporator to the lower dash frame. It appears to be the width of the evaporator and about 2" deep (Estimates only) The breakdown also shows a horizontal "C" shaped lower bracket (PN#1981836) that attaches to the bottom of the evaporator unit, then mounts each "leg" of the "C" to the transmission tunnel; it also appears to run the entire width of the evaporator unit. The picture shows attaching screws on both brackets; it looks as if they bolt to the top and bottom somehow, instead of the sides like later under-dash units. Skyhawk61(Yes, I used to own a 172)

SkyHawk 61, Is the catalog that you referring to the main catalog parts book (I have that one) or is another one (dealer installed stuff) that I don't have. I would love a scanned copy of that page if possible...
My parents had a 1967 Skyhawk 172 when I was growing up. I have my Multi engine and Instrument rating but hardly fly anymore...sigh...

If you have the Mopar "1959 Passenger Car Parts List" book, you should find the two exploded diagrams of the Model D air conditioner on page 24AG of the "Air Conditioning" section, toward the last part of the book. The picture at the top shows the two "supports" we're talking about. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll try and send you a scanned copy PM. Dennis

I do have this exact air condition unit that you are looking for. This unit I have is in immaculet shape, it also has all the brackets & hoses
