One of the pistons rings broke while assembling the pistons so we have a new set coming! 7 pistons in the 318 so far

Any suggestions of how to remove the rocker arm shaft dowel pin?

The shop removed it for us.
I think you can remove it with a pair of pliers. Should be ok if there is a little bit of movement in it.

I assembled the heads yesterday and they are ready to go back on the block. Waiting for some cam lube so we can put the NOS cam back in!

The cam lube arrived and we made some progress again. The NOS cam shaft is in (thank you Forwardlook Frank!) and we put the heads back on. After a little break we went on with the timing chain, the NOS lifters (thank you Forwardlook Frank!) and the pushrods. More to come next week!

Also had some other stuff that we had to do and then a few hours later we got home and started putting the oil pan on. We had orderded the gasket in Germany as it was the only one not in the rebuild kit we have. It broke in different places and just came out when we tightened the bolts Had to find another one fast and there was one company in the country teat had a set in stock. A 2 hour drive and we could go on working on the engine.

4 layers of primer, 3 layers of paint and 3 layers claer coat should do the job.

Wow! We are in the winter doldrums. Not much going on, except for what's happening in Poortvliet. In the interest of keeping the website alive, I'm posting here a pic Matthew recently sent. Lookin' good!

I chickened out and sent my P/S pump out to be rebuilt. It was kinda greasy, but if I'm not mistaken the housing had actually been painted blue. Any chance it came like that from the factory?

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!

After lots of work today we got the engine running for the first time since the rebuild Took a while to get it started but with the help of our friend Andre we got it running, a bit loud without exhaust pipes but it ran well. Now we need to adjust the timing and replace the oil pressure sender.
