I agree, I am glad to have discovered the mis-alignment before I had the front clip on. I was able to get the motor in and out pretty quickly and am glad to now for sure it is aligned correctly.

I checked my washers and I do have them in place from the tranny to the bell housing and even put them on the bell housing to the rear of the motor connection too just to make sure.

Glad I took a lot of tear down photo's of the convert, it is helping me put mine back together again. I look at everyones car pictures for little tidbits to on how cables and hoses are routed thru and behind things in the engine compartment.

John - the important word in my post was NEW washers.. I reused the old ones, by habit or not thinking that they were at the time about 42 years old.
When my buddy and I put new trany in, I remember, I think, torque converter wouldn't turn. We had old trany setting next to car so could see how all the splines were situated so made it a little easier on a couple of rookies and after a little "adjusting" everything went together and meshed.
One memorable event; we were laying under car and he was turning flywheel with tool to get some bolts on torque converter lined up and I felt something dripping on my chest. What happened is that I had disconnected battery cable and it kind of got between fan blade and radiator so when he was turning flywheel, fan blade was turning and forced the end of battery cable into radiator thus making hole and that something dripping on my chest was antifreeze  I ended up taking radiator out of my parts car and am still using that.

Fins59, I did replace those washers just failed to comment that I did, but I did not on the 8 Trans support bolts. I need to replace those too. Thanks for the reminder.

Getting dark earlier now...I am missing the long days of summer already, but there is a 3 day weekend coming up in a few days and hopefully get some more work done.

Tonight I switched out the single speed wipers for the varible speed one I just got in last week, Glad I recieved the varible speed assembly before the dash goes in this weekend.
