318 Four Barrel Air Cleaner
I noticed some members have 318 Poly engines. My Sport Fury's original was replaced at some point with a 318 Poly 2 barrel. The original intake, 4 barrel and, I think, air cleaner were tossed. I have since found a 4 barrel intake and carburetor. Based on what I've seen on the "Showcase" part of this site and the factory shop manual, my air cleaner looks correct for a four barrel, but I can't figure out how it should mount. It mounts onto my 2 barrel with a clamp, but I can't see any way it could possibly go on the AFB four barrel. Does anyone have any pictures of the underside and mounting, etc, of the four barrel air cleaner on a 318?

Re: 318 Four Barrel Air Cleaner
I know this thread is a little old and I hope you've found your answer by now but I have the poly 318 4-barrel set up. Threaded rod screws into the top of the carb sticking straight up. The bottom of the air cleaner just sits right on top of the carb throat. The threaded rod goes thru the hole in the center of the lid and a washer and wing nut tighten and hold the whole schmeel in place.
If this doesn't answer it for you let me know and I'll be glad to take & post some photos with the lid off.

Hmm, thought I had replied to this one. Oh well, posted again...!
There are 3 or 4 types of aircleaners for our V-8 cars.
The 318 2-bbl cleaner uses a clamp to grab the sides of the carb.
The 318 4 bbl is secured by threaded rod and wingnut..see prior post.
The 361 4 bbl (a.k.a. Golden commando) attaches with threaded rod and wingnut.
The first two cleaners very similar, but the opening that mates to the carb varies.
There was a fourth cleaner...a large capacity one? that fit the 2 bbl..I found one or two on station wagons in salvage yards.
The first two are not interchangeable.
