interior sizes and dimensions

Post by Ron Keij »

Hi all,

We are getting ready to have a new original interior installed and need info. We need to know as much sizes and dimensions as possible like the exact location of the buckles and power window switches. . For the door panels it might be possible to make a paper model and mail it to me. I am willing to pay for all time and expenses made of course!

If anybody can help out we would be very grateful! Even if you don't know it all you might be able to give some information others don't have.
And of course pictures can be posted in this topic for reference 8)

Thanks in advance,
Ron and Matthew

Hi Ron & Matthew,

As it happens, I just got my door cards delivered this week, I have attached photos here. Let me know if this is the same as what you're after?
I can probably make a template of this to post to you. send me an email with your details and I will see what I can do! unfortunatly my seats are all still at the auto trimmers and he is using my original covers to make templates for the new so I cant help out on the seats, no doubt someone here will have the info though, Cheers.....Dan

Daniel,

Your panels are georgeous!!!!!!!!!
That is exactly what we need, please send me that template in the picture

Thanks for your offer, that is exacly what we want. Our car has a non original interior and we have nothing that is of any use except for the panel itself. I will send you my email address through a PM as I don´t want spammers to find me.

Thanks,
Ron

Hey John,
How are you? Yes I got these through SMS and I am very pleased with them, got the rear panels as well to match and also the fabric and vinyl for the seats, dont ya just luv the fabrics from that era!! delivery did take some months maybe 3 - 4 ?
Ron, I got your PM and I'm on to it, I'll let you know more info soon
Hey while we're in the wanted section and talking about this topic, does anyone have a stainless moulding for these door cards that sit on top of the carpet line? I'm missing one and could sure use another one to save me having to fabricate something.
Cheers
Dan

Hi Dan,

Contact John at Big M. The parts I took to him this summer had one of those strips.

Hi all,

thanks for all your replies through the forum and or PM! It really will help to get a fantastic new interior.

The bad news is that I got a total price yesterday and I think I will check some others to do the work. At the current US dollar rate it would cost me about $6600 to have my interior done with the right cloth and vinyl. The material from SMS would be around $1600 according to the shop and the rest of the cost is labour........
Seems like a steep price to me but I have never had an iterior done, any of you know what a normal price would be for the interior of my Sport Fury?

Thanks,
Ron

Ron, I have not bit the bullet yet for my interior as you well know. Weird that even Mopar Mel is offering on Ebay the complete interior for our era cars for $3500 US.

Has anyone done this thru Mopar Mel regarding the interior package? Is the quality good? Usually he is very high on his prices. Mel's price would seem to be a bargain. Must be some catch...

Roger, Tom F. Dan, any insight to this?

All I can say is I would be wary of any ANY dealings with Mel. He will vigorously defend any action he takes, be it a short-cut, an alteration, a mistake. I don't know how you could guarantee satisfaction from him. He never gives the customer a break. I find it really hard to believe he has lowered his prices, regardless of the economy.
In 2004 I delivered my seats with rotted foam padding, to Airport Valley Vinyl in SeaTac, WA, with more than enough new OAI vinyl and SMS fabric to do the complete interior. They re-stuffed the seats and covered them with the new material. They also re-did the quarter panels. They insisted they have the car itself in order to insure a correct fit for their new door panels. I think the total came to 5K. Certainly the door panels were done more quickly there than at SMS. I went back and got the cvt. boot and cvt. top done by them as well, so the final cost is kinda forgotten at this point.
I could go back there and see if they'd quote a current day price....

Good enough for me on Roger's testimonial on Mopar Mel's dealings.

Similar to what I have heard from others too. Stay away. Run don't walk...

That stainless molding you seek has nail-like prongs on the back, as I recall. The part gets "nailed" thru the cardboard, then the nails are bent over to secure it.
I think I have one piece, but some nails are missing (I think). Check w/ John Fowlie..
or buy the parts car SF currently on eBay!...~$300, in Wisconsin. (It's a mess).

I actually just got off the phone with a company here in Lancaster, PA called Stumps Upolstery, they did some of the other families cars, highly recommended. You know us former jarheads, we like to get hurt, but I appreciate the heads up....!
