Hi from Susan Cozzi new member CA
Hello everyone! I joined this forum because my son has a 1959 Plymouth Fury. It is white and has white vinyl swivel seats. His father bought it from a lady who lived in Beverly Hills, CA in 1975. My son lives in Sonoma County, CA. If I remember right it had ridiculously low mileage. I want to say about 3500 miles. After he bought it he only drove it in parades. The car has been garaged at all times. The outside does have some rust spots, but the interior is in great condition. His father died 13 years ago and my son hasn't done anything with the car. The gas lines need to be replaced. I would post pictures here if I knew how to do that.
My son wants to sell the Fury because he has to downsize his fleet of cars due to storage space. He doesn't know what the car is worth and I was hoping someone from this website/forum could help me determine what would be a fair asking price. If anyone out there is willing to help out with this please email me at Brittlstar@aol.com.
Thank you so very much.
09-22-09 P. S. I just checked the odometer. It has 10,500 miles on it.

I received some pics by email from Sue and it is not a Fury but it's a Sport Fury. It is hard to come up with a price with just these pics but there must be someone willing to give an estimate. No interior pics yet, her son had the keys.
She promised more pics in the near future.

Looks like a clean. original car, should bring a decent buck......
Re: Hi from Susan Cozzi new member CA
The interior looks incorrect for '59 (some sort of pleated vinyl, white was not available). The wheelcovers are 59 Dodge, I think. I sense the claim of low mileage may be difficult to prove. One would have to look at brake pedal wear...othe clues like that.
A correct interior would set a person back $5K (headliner included). The rust can be fixed, but then you have to re-paint the whole to match. More money required. Wheelcovers are easy to locate.
I would say it's a 7,500-9K car, as is, from what I can see.
Pretty nervy of me?

Heres what NADA's Classic car guide had to say, i based this on the zip code for Sonoma County, California and assuming this car has a 318 with auto.

That's a pretty wide range, from 10-30K!
It sure is a nice looking car. If the custom interior appeals to a new buyer, and if it is in drivable condition, (she says fuel line needs replacing? has it been stored for a long time?= gas tank needs cleaning, brakes gone bad?). she might get 12K on eBay auction.
Since it came from Hollywood, maybe it has a link to someone famous?

My two cents worth, I believe Roger is pretty close to the mark with his estimate of $9K +/-. A 59 Dodge just sold here in Denver area two weeks agi for $8k that was slightly little rougher then this SF is. It had 52,000 miles on it. Very original. Local areas of Fin interest can bring higher and lower levels. Same guy who bought this car is negotiating on a 57 De Soto Convert that has been storage for 30 years. Owner wants $20K for it. He already found a buyer for the same 59 Dodge for $8500 so he can get the convert.
Fix what needs to be fixed on the 59 SF and if they could be patient, probably could get more on Ebay, But around $9K is close. Wrong time of year to sell but good time to buy cars like this one.
Now if my lucky numbers are called on Powerball tonight.....This car and hundreds other fin cars will be mine!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you tonight!
And just a minute ago I got some new pictures from Sue, I think Roger is close with his estimate. Maybe it will bring less because of the rust and the non original interior but it is a solid Sport Fury.

Thanks for posting the pix, Ron.
The engine bay is extremely clean. Surely it's been detailed. The firewall in the distance seems to show the original white body color, faded and worn, so how could the engine bay be so "new"? Not a bad thing, but a hint it may not be low-miles.
Some of the chrome plating shows "oxidation"/pitting...maybe an easy clean-up, maybe not?
The stainless looks beautiful! Interesting to see a SF with single front fender antenna, not dual rears.
I find the interior very un-appealing. All the variety of color and pattern have been removed (look at that door panel). Too much white! (Is this tuck-and-roll?)
Not having seen it in person, my opinion is the car has been re-conditioned, and is probably not a true low-mileage car. It has been stored out in the weather..note the rainwater stains to fake sparetire cover.
I think $9K is a good price...someone who loves that interior and can afford a re-paint and the other repairs might go 12K----------

i like the the tuck and roll, you have to remember not everyone wants as we do, an original car, it does need to be painted and im not keen on the tuck and roll on the parcel shelf and the headliner, but all in all, still a pretty cool car!
Also, going by a price guide doesnt always mean thats what its worth, back in June i came across a 61 Chev Impala 2 door post, which is a rare model, V8 auto, it needed paint, the windshield was scratched badly by the wiper blades, the heater control was missing, the body side stainless was full of dings, had 64 Chev wheel covers, and for this, they wanted 12 grand!
Going by the price guide, it was worth about 5,500 in that shape.
I figured it could be bought for about 5 grand maybe, it sold fairly quickly, for 12 grand!

As I implied earlier, what the heck to I know?! I don't follow teh auction results, be it Mecum or Barrett-Jackson or Silver or how about that one coming up in Branson, MO... closing down 57 Heaven..
Re: Hi from Susan Cozzi new member CA
I agree Roger, i guess its best to say that its worth the price that the person whos interested is willing to pay for it!

Re: Hi from Susan Cozzi new member CA
I want to thank everyone for their graciousness in replying to my question as to the worth of the 59 Plymouth Sports Fury that belongs to my son. Thank you Ron for posting the pictures I took.
I also would like you to know that I am confident regarding the mileage. And, yes the car has been garaged at all times to the best of my knowledge until this past month. We did have some rain here a couple of weeks ago. That is probably why you see water spots on it. It hasn't been washed since the rain. The car along with the other cars my son owns were kept in an airplane hangar. His father got the car sometime around 1976. It belonged to a very wealthy woman, the mother of his employer. She had a chauffeur, but this was her personal car and is why the mileage was so low. She wasn't famous, just very wealthy. The car was acquired when she died.
The information you have provided, the questions you brought up regarding the car will all be very helpful should my son place the car on EBay, unless you know of a better place to list it.
Thank you one and all for your responses. Should anyone else want to add their knowledge and/or opinions they will be gratefully appreciated as were all the others.

Re: Hi from Susan Cozzi new member CA
Ebay is probably the most convenient place to sell it. You wrote your son hasn't done anything with the car in 13 years. If it hasn't been started and driven in all that time, the brakes, gas tank and (you've said) gas line will have to be re-done. As this will take time and money, it seems unlikely you can get it to an auction place in the Bay Area.
If he lists it on eBay, he can put in the ad "not running" or "not roadworthy, buyer to arrange for pickup."
An interesting car. Thanks for sharing with us!

Hi everyone! You have all been so helpful! I wanted to update you on my son's 59 Sport Fury. It is sold. A done deal. He got $13 K for it. He sold it to a man who is a car enthusiast and he has known him for five years. He was unable to get in touch with him three weeks ago. He returned his call day before yesterday. He had been out of the country.
Thanks to each and everyone of you who took the time to give me information that helped sell the car. My son was very sad to have to sell it. He would never sell anything of his fathers' unless he really was between a rock and a hard spot.
