half a century old

Post by Fins59 »

This is the year our '59's become "50", which is kind of special in my opinion. In my case my SF birthday was November 16th. According to build sheet she was born/built November 16, 1958 in Evansville, IN. So on the 16th I drove her down to the gas station, filled er up and drove on the back roads for about 30 miles. (should have made it 50 now that I think of it). I also washed it. Then got her in the garage for a long winters hibernation. Earlier in the summer I had big plans for her 50th. My new garage was going to be 95% completed and I was going to throw a big party (garage warming/birthday party) for friends and car friends but garage progress didn't progress that well.( I think I need Roger the carpenter.) So I just might have a belated party in the spring. Anyway, you guys check your dates and treat your baby special on that day.

That's a great story, John! Faulkner's BD is closer to Carlisle; that's where I intend to celebrate his:

Speaking of Carlisle 2009 -- who's coming? I know I am! Start making your plans now -- the days go by fast!

I guess I will be there to celebrate with you! But I will have to leave the country on the last day of Carlisle to be home in time for my wife's work and for the BD of our car that was build on July 15th. As an early present she will be undergoing some plastic surgery next week and get fresh paint. She will be like new when we take her out for her BD tour 8)

My Plymouth might have passed its 50th bday already, i have no build date info on it, but judging by its serial # (M159100559), im guessing its a very early one, probably built in September or October of 1958, so happy birthday to us all, i do know my 59 Chev was built on Dec 17/58.
All in all, quite a milestone,1959 was the end of the fabulous 50s, a long time ago now indeed, and in my opinion, a better and simpler time!

Roger the carpenter here. If teh economy keeps dragging down, maybe I will have to take you up on your garage construction-I was in Beloit WI in September, for my college reunion.
When I turned 50, I was treated to a vacation in the British Virgin Islands. (Nice!)
I don't have a build date for my Plymouth. The little Fury Junior is on the docks in Copenhagen, waiting for Customs to release it to its new owner.
My car is a bit like me..it feels most comfortable and secure at home. If I could spend some time and money on it, I could fix the heater and the water leaks (you hardtop owners should appreciate the advantages)...as it stands, it is a fair-weather car.

Nighthawk - my last 4 digits are 1838 (production #) but I think each plant probably had their own series of numbers. My car was built in Evansville, IN. Yours must be Canadian built according to the 9 in your vin? BTW my Dodge Van was built in Canada - great vehicle - you guys do good work :)
Roger - Had the concrete poured for my garage Sep 19. Don't know when you were in WI in Sep but we could have probably had her up in a week :) Right now she's wrapped with Tyvek. Got a huge tarp on roof. Might get the roofing felt on before spring if we get a nice day (minus 4degrees tonite). No doors on her yet (3 doors - 2 l6x8 and 1 9x9) and 2 entry doors. Quite a project for a non-carpenter guy. But I'm enjoying every step. It's 30x48. Building inspector came other day and approved everything so far and said it was over code. Come spring I'll have to submit current pics of my car with garage.
