Generator to Alternator.

Post by Dick Koch »

I would like to replace my 35 amp. generator with a 60 amp. early Chrysler externally regulated alternator. Question? would connecting current wiring the same way to the alternator and regulator as it is connected to generator work. i.e. bat to bat, field to field and ground to ground or is there something to watch out for. With air conditioning and electric fan in this hot weather the 35 amp. generator is not enought to keep the battery charged and it runs down very easily so I have to carry a jumper with me all the time. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dick.

Blasphemy, and yet a good question. I can only pass this along to others, as I have no clue.

Hi Roger - When you have four old cars and a wife they had better be air conditioned, if you know what I mean. The green 59 SF will stay original.

Hi Dick,
I posted your question on Forwardlook.net. Please visit them as there are two replies.

Thanks Roger - I found the replys on Forwardlook.net but it wasn't much help because it was a itchy scratchie alternator, I have the original first issue alternator from Chrysler and they are nothing alike. I appreciate your help, maybe someone else will reply, I will keep looking.
Thanks,
Dick

Hey Dick, you might check out Painless Wiring web site. They have a LOT of diagrams on their web site and I used some of them when I rewired my Suburban which was very helpful since the kit I used had no Mopar specific diagrams. Ron
