Just a note to say I'm happy I found this forum.....would have probably saved me many hours blind research. Currently I'm installing Kwik Wire kit, priming interior & exterior and getting ready to add rear disc brakes with E-brake. Now running a 318 poly with dual quads, A833 four speed and 391 gears.

Ron - Welcome aboard, maybe you can help me, I'm restoring my 59 Sport Fury. It has a 318 with factory air and I want to install a dual quad setup. I already have a manifold I got from Big M. (One of our members that is a good info and parts source) I need info as to what size carburetors are best, cfm etc. choke setup and anyother helpful info. Ed Eckerson recommended WCFB or AFB Carbs at around 450 to 500 CFM but they are extremely hard to find. I would appreciate input from all members that can enlighten me in any way. Thanks.
Dick.

I overheard a fellow at the Portland Swap Meet who was selling a 1960 Plymouth convertible. It had dual fours, and he was telling someone he put a 600 cfm on the front and a 450 on the rear. This way he saved fuel and still could smoke the tires.
I know nothing about cfm an all that, Dick. Perhaps you can visit a speed shop and ask lots of questions!?

That sounds cool Roger, There is a Murray Speed Shop about a mile frome my house. There are nothing but Manifolds and Carburetors all over the place but the help (DUH) don't know S--t. If it ain't in the catalog you better know what you want. I have a 600 CFM so I guess its a matter of linkage so you run on the 450 and only kick in the 600 when challanged by a rice burner. Although my 361 with a single four has no problem with that.

I agree that you would prefer to speak w/ a knowledgable motorhead.
I know there are some at ForwardLook, but I don't know who they are- I've only skimmed thru their technical posts!

Rear discs with E brake and dual quad carbs

Post by moparwagon »

Roger, go to tsmmfg.com for rear discs with E brake. They are the least expensive I've found and I ordered through Skip. He was VERY helpful and is going to make the backing plate (he hasn't had an order for a '59 but wants to). After I got some measurements for him, he said he should have the whole setup ready in about two weeks. I'll post updates after they get here.

Dick, RE the dual carb setup on mine.....I don't remember which ones I have but will check in the next week and let you know. Since I'm a nucklehead of a mechanic, I had someone else put my drivetrain together and he was very surprised at the power it's putting out.

Later, Ron
