Inside rear view mirror

Post by duggar »

I need an interior rear view nite and day mirror. Mine has spots on the mirror and I would like to replace. Anyone know where I can get one.
I have a 1959 Sport Fury.

Regards,

Chuck

I have never had this done - but a recent encounter with a tow truck driver tells me that any good glass shop will cut and replace any mirrors.

He built special size mirrors for his truck and found an automotive glass shop to cut the mirrors to his specification.

Just a thought...

my old mirror has nite and day etched on it and also has a certain shade of mirror that I wanted to maintain. I might have to end up having someone cut it.

The daynight mirror is prismatic..that is, it is shaped like a wedge..I dont know if a glass shop can replicate this.
Some years afo I bought some prismatic Mopar mirrors..give me a chance to look for them..

I did a fast search on Google for mirror restoration and found that Bear Glass in NY restores (Re-silvers) day/night mirrors as long as the front glass has not been destroyed by cleansers. My guess is $50 but I did not call.

Their FAQ states:
15.Can you resilver auto rear view mirrors?
We resilver car mirrors. Day/night mirrors will retain their day/night function. Remember to remove the mirror from it's holder. We want only the piece of glass.

I would still guess you may find a cheaper whole mirror perhaps from Roger? I bet getting the mirror separated from the holder is a tricky proposition.

Very sorry for the delay.
I do NOT have any DAY-NITE mirrors. All I have is two mirrors, each with a toggle beneath..one mirror housing is all chrome, one is ribbed chrome. the former is in nice shape, the latter is not. Neither is correct for '59. I also have one prismatic mirror..glass only lost most of its' silvering. It used to be a Mirromatic mirror, as I can still make out the small circle for the "eye".

I'm sorry I have not replied before now. I guess I will have to keep looking for a mirror.

Not really what I was looking for. I may have to end up with something like that.

Thanks for the heads up.

So much time has passed..I cannot recall if the inside prismatic mirror was glued in...now I am thinking it is NOT.
The exterior mirrors ARE glued in..

I got a mirror off of ebay. The mirror I got supposedly came from a 1967 GTX or Coronet. The mirror was exactly like the one on my 1959. I could not believe that it was a perfect fit.
