stainless trim removal
stainless trim removal
hi guys. i have taken off most of the window trim on the fury, but i am not sure how to remove the trim at the top of the fins, and on the side of the body. i see that it is held in place by a twisted metal wire type fastener ( it looks like the ribbon logo used for the support the troops yellow ribbon). i have tried to twist these apart and have had no luck. do these get destroyed when removed? i need some advise a.s.ap as the trim is to be polished on monday, and i dont want to damage the paint in any way.
i am also unsure how to remove the trim around the rear window.
any hel would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Curt

Curt,
All you have to do is go inside your trunk, press the twisted metal clips (springs) together and guide them carefully thru the wholes so the trim will pop out. The clips are very close together so you push the first clip only half way out, then you push the second half way out, then the third, and so on.
A second person should hold the trim from outside so it can’t pop in again. He also has to take care that no trim is bent.
The side trim can be lifted off from outside or poped out from inside if you can reach it.
Some clips may have nuts to hold the trim tight, so work slow, look twice before you work and avoid martial force.
Turning the clips around won’t help but may destroy them, so be careful here.
Good Luck
Stefan

i plan on replacing all of my clips. had my passenger fender trim, i just gave it a tug and it fell off. the clips were rusted into pieces. probably from the trash the tire kicked up. the rest might be fine, but the trim is a lot harder to replace if it falls off going down the road than a set of fasteners, so i don't plan on taking chances, gotta remove it for paint anyways. appears like my trim has never been off the car, just masked off for cheap paint years ago same as i did in december. like to see pics after urs r polished, kinda curious how much difference there will be. --jeremy
