Jumpin' Jacks
Jumpin' Jacks
Roger sent me this note about the jack discussion going on in the mailing list. (Sorry, Roger, I edited a bit, and include only 3 of the pix you sent me here):
I have a copy of a diagram on how to use jacks (for '58's, I think) -- I'll try and find and post here as well.Roger wrote:Here is the jack assembly I carry in my car. I do not say it is "correct". Note the "Y" shaped post...
I found the following number on the "shoe"..(the part that fits to the jacking part..) ...it's # 2460151. There is only a part # on the jacking part.
The shoe is stamped "Sub Rear Only" with arrow pointing to one of the two pivots.
I remember this from my parent's wagon..in order to jack up the rear of the Suburban, you set the shoe? hook? onto the jacking part using the Sub pivot point. This set the angle of the shoe to the shape of the bumper. If you didn't lift near the area where the bumper was bolted to the frame, you would bend the bumper.
Not sure about this, but Dick Koch's jack appears to have a thumb that fits into a slot in the bumper..this is if you didn't have the accessory over-riders..okay, am I way out on a limb here?
