windshield wiper problem
windshield wiper problem
Hi,
My wipers stop when I turn them off..they stop right in their tracks! They do not make their return trip to the bottom of the windshield.
I am uncertain where the problem lies, and am asking the list for advice. Is this the fault of the motor, or the switch?
thanks

Re: windshield wiper problem
Roger, I'm thinking that there's a switch on the wiper apparatus itself, in parallel with the dash switch, that provides power to the motors even when the dash switch is open (off) -- that is, until the wipers return to the park position, when the wiper switch opens too. At least, that's how I think it works! I'm not at home, so I can't check the wiring diagram, but that's my bet.rogerh wrote:Hi,

Roger - This probably won't help you but I'll throw it out there anyway. Recently I removed the windsheild washer foot pedal/pump from my 4-dr 59 Fury. Now my wipers on that car are doing what yours are doing. They stop when I turn them off, as you say "right in their tracks". (I intend on putting the washer system in my Sport Fury). Maybe something is astray in your pedal/pump/washer system. I guess I'm assuming you have the washer system on your car.
since I have your atention, the manual states:
readjust the parking lever at the motor switch plate
Also: Clean contact points at switch plate
Sorry if I sound stupid, but does that mean I have problems at the SWITCH? I can always try another switch...
I guess I cant follow simple insructions, which is why I am in marital trouble

i believe they r reffering to the motor portion. i have yet to try my wipers, but on newer models, if they act up like urs, i have found that it is always the motor end. i buy a new/reman. and it fixes the prob, never taken one apart yet though.--jeremy
