I just noticed (after 57 years of ownership) that there are no holes in the trunk floor well extension panels (behind the rear wheel) for a rubber body plug on my 59 Fury hardtop. My 59 Fury 4 door sedan parts car has the rubber plugs installed. Anybody know why the two are different? Rubber plug number is 1810273. Different assembly plants, maybe?
I'm unclear on what you mean by "trunk floor well extension panels" - do you mean, the vertical sheet metal panel that forms the inner side of the fender well, on either side of the car? Or somewhere on the horizontal surface of the trunk itself? Might you have a picture?
Odd, I don't see that P/N in the Parts Book:
How did you get it - is it stamped into the surface of the plug itself?
Surfing eBay, I found this collision parts list just tonight! Is 97 the "extension panel" you refer to, Dennis? In this diagram, there's a white circle that I've circled in red - is the that approximate position of the plug in your four-door parts car?
That's the one. listed in the parts catalog as "Extension, Rear Floor Pan Side" . Picture clearly shows a drain plug hole on the panel, but my 59 Fury does not have a hole there on either side. No repairs were done to these panels during the restoration process, and the rubber plug listed in the catalog (1836798, two piece drain type--whatever that is) is not the number I removed from my 59 Fury sedan parts car.(1810273) This number shows as being used in Dodges and Desotos only in 1959, and the number is molded into the rubber plug. I know stuff gets switched around during assembly; that might account for the numbers being different. My hardtop shows to be a Detroit assembly car, and I wonder if other assembly plants might have done something different.

I'm not sure. My Sport Fury is an LA (Maywood) car, and it doesn't have these plugs either. The answer is lost in antiquity!
