White Wall Tires from Remington

Post by sportfury1959 »

Dear All,

I bought a set of Remington white wall tires (G 78-14) a couple of years ago. To tell the truth I was not very happy with my purchase. The tire shop who mounted the tires on the rims had severe problems on all 4 tires to get them calibrated and so the rims are loaded with lead. The rims are all ok – I checked that before.

I’d like to know your experience with the Remington’s does anybody have the same or completely different experiences with it?

What brands and sizes of WW-tires are also possible on our cars?

Thanks for suggestions!

Stefan

I had Remington Cushion Aire on the Fury when I bought it. There wasn't a great deal of balance weight on the rims. I've recently changed to radial tyres and am very pleased with the ride. The tyre company that fitted then put all the balance weights on the inside of the rim so nothing shows. I should think most tyre companies can do this.

Is it worth getting the tyre company to refit your tyres but moving them approx half a turn in relation to the rim. You could try with the worst to see if it makes a difference. In any event I'd get them to rebalance with the weights on the inside.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I had no other reason to change from Remington other than they were starting to look their age.

Thanks fellows for this encouraging information. Tomorrow I’ll go to the tire shop and get the tires rebalanced again. I hope seriously that it helps! If not, I’ll take the tires of the rims and see if the rims are in perfect shape, but only in the winter time – now it’s time to drive.
