The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming
The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming
This interesting brochure is posted in its entirety on the Imperial Club web site, and would attract much attention today with vintage Mopar collectors. Chrysler actually went to the expense of having a brochure printed up in Russian for its entire 1959 product line, apparently to eventually sell its vehicles in the former Soviet Union at a later day and time. Why Chrysler did this is a mystery, but the timing must have had something to with well-publicized visits by each nation's political leaders. In 1959, then-VP Richard Nixon visited the Soviet Union, which was quickly followed by Soviet president Nikita Kruschev's visit to the USA later that year. Such political visits can generate positive business opportunities, but that was very limited in this case. I can't fault Chrysler for trying, though.
