Complete gas tank / new owner

Post by 4dHT »

Hi! :) My name is Beth ('60 Dodge Dart on the FL) Just bought a 1959
Fury 4 door HT:" Wanda" [should have pics this week]
Help! My gas tank was fabricated by previous owner. Does not have
long enough filler neck. I am desperate for a proper fitting
tank! 20 gallon (pts manual # 1820199)
I am also missing the "housing or shield
fuel tank filler" upper & lower (pts manual #s 1869 567, 1867 632)
Quanta Products doesn't make anything for Plymouths before 1962.
My usual tries: Moore's Auto Salvage, Andy Berbaum's--no luck.
Any body got a tank, or know where I can find one for eventual
daily driver?
Thanks Beth.

Fuel tank

I have had to go through Mopar Mel to get some of the harder to get items for my 59. Mopar Mel is in Minisota. He is expensive but has a boneyard of nothing but finned era MOPARS. His website is
www.moparmel.com
Send him an email he more than likely has a good tank. But remember you will pay a premium.
Anyway I hope this helps.

:D Craig:
Thanks, I've dealt with Mel before, was checking if anybody else had
a tank first, trying to avoid that "premium" you are speaking of!

Hi Beth,

Welcome here. Can't wait to see some pics of your car.

About the gas tank, did you already mailed Roger if he has one?
It wouldn't suprise me if he had a couple in a corner somewhere :P

Matthew: when I can, pics up --you'll hate the current
paint job, believe me! BAD U.S. Flag job. Havn't mailed Roger. Forgive my innocence of things and people "59"-- Roger Who?

The paint wouldn't scare me! My Fury is in the showcase. Nothing scares me!

:) Matthew, I love your car !.... I posted Roger Howard, thanks!
What kind of music do you like? I took 10 years classical piano and
can play just about anything if I get the music for it (my ear ain't that hot)
and the time --for guitar my heroes are Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman,
Segovia (sp.) and Django Reindhardt. I have an old Fender Strat I should
go back to (was teachin' myself bar chords)-- my keyboard heroes are
Wanda Landowska, Josef Lhevinne, Guimar Novaes, Bud Powell, and
Rick Wakeman. Thanks again!

Thanks!
I hope Roger has something for you.

I like all sorts of music. From rock 'n roll to punk-rock to ska.
I really like stuff like Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and more.
I like bands that are not in the main stream. Bands like Ignite, Reel big fish, No use for a name, Good riddance and many more. You probably never heard of them.
An old Fender Strat?? Wow, pics! :D I had a Fender Jaguar 64 reissue.
I now have a Fender Mustang bass 64 reissue and a Fender Precision bass.

Hi Beth, I'm pretty sure that I have a good fuel tank and the othe pieces you need. I'll go out to the yard later and check out the cars to be sure there is a solid one, and get back to you tomorrow.---John

Any '57-'59 Mopar passenger car tank will interchange but not the station wagon tanks.
Regards,
Ian.

:) Ian : thanks for the info. I knew the tanks could be interchanged
from a small interchange manual I had, but didn't think about the
station wagons .... Beth.

Hi Beth, sorry it took awhile to get back to you. There were actually 3 different tanks available for the '59, the standard 20 gallon tank, the wagon tank, and a 23 gallon tank which was used on the police and taxi applications. These car tanks will interchange but the correct straps must be used with each. I do have a 20 gallon tank with no dents or holes along with the filler tube, sending unit, retaining straps and splash guard and grommet. If you are interested, please e-mail me at bigmauto@colusanet.com. Thanks, John
