I had a 59 Sport Fury, does anyone have my car?
Hello all,
When I was 21, I bought a 59 Plymouth Sport Fury - mine was white with the red interior, it had add-on air conditioning, the gasoline heater option, the self-dimming rear view mirror, and swivel seats. It was a great road car, I lived in Reno, NV, and would drive up to Vancouver, Wa if I had a 3 day weekend available - the trip was 600 miles, and I could usually make it in around 8 hrs, although one time I did it in 7 1/2 hrs, getting off work at midnight and arriving at Clark College in Vancouver at 7:30 am. The Fury would cruise along fine at around 120 mph, which was possible in a couple places on highway 395 in Northern Ca and Southern OR, where the road is straight for 50 miles or so and there was nothing on either side of the road but sage brush.
When I got married I traded in the Fury for a '63 Valiant, which was probably a mistake, but I wanted new wheels at the time. I traded it in in Augusta, GA. Does anyone have the "made especially for Richard Wooldridge" plaque in their car?
By the way, the gasoline heater option was great, I installed an electric fuel pump, and could go out and turn the heater on in the mornings to warm up the inside of the car before going to work. It was a little noisy, though!
Regards,
Richard Wooldridge
