59 Ply SPort Fury 3 speed tranny fluid change
Hi All,
Been a while since I was on this site. Been very busy and now returning to getting the 59 back on the road. Need some advise on how to change the fluid on the three speed tranny. I'm sure my father in law, who has passed a long time ago, changed the automatic to the three speed. Any help would be appreciated.

Gino - If its a three speed automatic torque flight transmission the first step is to remove the fill tube from the side of the oil pan, be careful and ready because oil will go everywhere unless you are on a lift and have the proper eqpt. to catch the oil. next drop the oil pan to get the rest of the old oil out and clean the pan and check for metal shavings, you also now have access to the oil filter which needs to be removed and cleaned in a solvent like mineral spirits. Remove the cover on the Torque Converter and drain it. There are two pipe plugs 180 degrees from each other that have to be removed to drain the oil from the torque converter. Do one then turn the torque converter over and do the other one. The filter does not have gaskets but make sure you have a trans. pan gasket on hand before you start.
I would suggest you get a Maintenance manual, all the procedures are in there along with oil capacities etc. The are easy to find on ebay.

Re: 59 Ply SPort Fury 3 speed tranny fluid change
HI Dick,
Thanks for the quick reply. It is a three on the tree manual. I think there is a manual somewhere in the pile of things we had received from my father in law. I have a 78 Triumph, obviously no relationship to the MOPAR, but it has a drain plug on the bottom and a fill plug on the side. I did not crawl under to look at the 59 in quite a while. However, my assumption is it would be the same? And also what type of tranny fluid should be used?? Thanks again for your time.
