Convertible header bow color
Convertible header bow color
I'm going through a small collection of convertible top rack pieces for my car, and the majority of the smaller steel pieces are painted black. The cast pieces from my convertible are also black, while the other ones I have from another car were off-white. I am assuming the black ones from my car were originally that color, as the car was left in a junkyard in 1965.
My question is, what color should the header bow be? The original was so far gone, there was no way to tell. Black would be a logical assumption.

Re: Convertible header bow color
John, My convert header when I bought the car was that off white (vanilla) color and my car was originally black with a white top.(IBM card confirms this) I painted the header and other arms of the top a little brighter white then I should have...But it was the off white originally on mine.
Is your convert a black top originally or you can't tell from what was left of the fabric? Maybe the black fabric top cars had black header and frame parts...

Re: Convertible header bow color
There were a few remnants of white vinyl still on the tack strips, John. In looking at the other pieces, they were definitely black from the factory.

Re: Convertible header bow color
What color was the interior of your SF? I would surmise that depending on the interior color (or top color) you might get black or the off white. I have see other FL cars that had each, Off white was mostly what I saw.
What color is your De Soto convert top frame color?
A friend here in town has a 57 De Soto convert that is unrestored, Black in exterior color with a original rose/Cream color interior and their convert frame color is white with a white top... I guess it can go either way, your choice...

Re: Convertible header bow color
The header bow and all other top parts on my 59 Belvedere Convert were off white in color. The car was powder blue. John
