what to do

Post by martin59 »

I need to replace the big bolt under my radiator that connects the front clip to the frame. Someone took a grinder to it and messed up the treading on it should I just use a regular bolt and make some bushings or is this replaceable.

Are you referring to this bolt?

IF you are talking about the core support bolt, most likely it got dragged on concrete or other pavement.
The bolt is welded to the core support, I believe. Replacing it would involve cutting the old one off and welding a new one on.
I imagine it would be rather difficult to drill out the old one, re-thread the hole, and install a new stud.
If not too badly damaged, perhaps you can find a die and repair the threads?

Martin - That support bolt is threaded into the radiator support and is removable. I bet John Fowlie can help you at Big M. He is a member of the Forum and may reply to you other wise you can contact him.

Hey Dick, thanks for supplying that valuable information. It should not be difficult for him to remove the damaged stud. It will be SAE thread, not metric, so he may have to go to Mr Fowlie for a replacement.
